Everyone carries a phone these days, when the bus was late could you have not called the JC to warn them you would be late?
You can't call your JC, you call central number, put on hold wait wait wait, they take message, JC call you back when they can.

    errrrm, no......I don't!

I am currently in the ESA Support group, but even in the days when I DID work, I did not like using a phone.

Even assuming someone does have a mobile with them - and I concede the majority will....can you guarantee they will get a signal? (Certainly not where I currently live).

And are calls to the JC+ toll-free? If not then this could also be an issue.

OP the argument you have to put forward is...

2, There are known issues with buses not arriving on my route. Therefore the bus not arriving was outside of my control and given the 'benefit of the Doubt' my reason being that my bus didn't arrive at your discretion should be accepted as truthful and thus good cause.

Surely, if there are known issues with buses not arriving, 'common sense' would be not to rely on the latest bus by which you could arrive on time for your appointment turning up

Don't be silly, there is no proof of bus times & bus journeys, bus companies are not interested, maybe for a police investigation, certainly not for member of public.
It's not about proof, it's about showing some evidence that OP is not lying. There are many steps that could have been taking, some very simple ones that it would seem OP didn't bother to do, as I've suggested, leaving a note through in the postbox or calling immediately and leaving a message.

Notes left in a JC postbox get sent to head office and never reach the JC. Contact by telephone is effectively impossible.

Good, then they could ask their Head Office for the proof.

People are really lacking imagination here when it comes to giving anything that shows they are being honest.

Did you bother to contact the bus company, explained the situation and ask them to confirm that the bus didn't show up. Otherwise, how is the JCA to know you are not making this up as a excuse?
Reasonable-ness and the balance of probability. Your first 3 words are negative towards the OP...why?

TfL publishes delays on their website. The two local bus and tram providers post any cancellations on Facebook. Is there a reason why yours is particularly difficult?
I would guess that TfL has very smart technology which enables them to transfer data to their website. Do you expect all other bus services in the country (not to mention back-water low budget bus services) to do the same? Really?

    Not everyone carries a phone.

    OP,

Do a man Recon whilst continuing to sign, then appeal.

As has been said, keep any email you have sent to the bus company, ask the bus co. for any evidence they can give you about that bus being late.

You eventually did take a bus to arrive after jobcentre was closed, make sure you keep that bus ticket, as it should have the time on it.

Did you show your bus ticket to the advisor?

Include all evidence with your Man Recon (keep the original bus ticket yourself, send a photo copy).

    No, they don't.

    No, they don't.

Whether "everyone" does or doesn't is irrelevant. The only relevant thing is whether the OP had one, and if so, why they didn't use it.

If its irrelevant then you need to take it up with both the OP and the poster who made the comment that everyone has a mobile phone.

    I doubt you'll do either.

Just another way of attacking a benefit claimant.
