Down to my last 70p and don't know what to do

  • I do feel loads better today. I think I just panicked yesterday when I got the letter.

I spoke to work, and I'm getting a cheque, but it's been held up by the postal strikes. So it'll hopefully get there monday, but it could be longer.

The reason I don't know how much I'm going to get is because this will be my first paycheck, and everyone has told me conflicting things. I've been there 6 weeks, and was originally told I'd be paid each month for the hours worked that month. And I've also been told told it was for 4 weeks but you had to work a month in hand. So with being there 6 weeks I'm not entirely sure if it will be for 2, 4 or 6 weeks! I've also done some overtime recently, and I don't know if that will be added this time or next time.

As someone mentioned earlier, you would more than likely be entitled to a food voucher which enable you to get some groceries from a local food bank charity. Contact the CAB and they may be able to provide you with information. Don't you have a CPN who provides you with any help, support? Your Doctor should be able to refer you. Good Luck.

What I find nowadays if you are a permie you won't have to work a month in hand, thats what happened to me when I was a new starter I got paid at the same time as everyone else. As regards to your overtime, you will probably get that on next months payslip.

You may get paid for 4 weeks and the 2 weeks may appear on your next slip, however I do not know how your employer does it though, this is from my own experience :D

So glad you're feeling a bit better Hotpoint after all the kindness and advice you've had. I'm astonished that the supermarket where you are working is so vague about your pay. My tip would be to make friends over the phone with the payroll department. If you're nice to them, they will always explain the ins and outs of your basic salary and overtime.
Do keep posting - you've made a lot of new friends who want to know how you are.
Oh - and as I've just seen some pigs flying past the window, may I ask whether the 'friend' who says your ex should pay for everything has already popped round to see him, extracted lots of cash and brought it back for you??;)

  • Im glad your feeling better, and on another note, life can be a lot more simple without a BF!

Also, well dont for getting a job! Many people dont and you should be roud of what you have and are achieving. Know that you are not alone on here.

When i first becamse single there were loads of things on here that helped and once you can get a few things straight you will feel more in control. As for the creditors sod them, talk to CAB let them help you with them and work out a plan. If the debt is in joint names, only agree to pay half! It may only give you some more time as they will say that its a joint calim so you are responsible, but it will give you a few years before you have to worry about the other half, at which time hopefully your ex can be persuaded into aying his half if you can. If he is like mine, it wont happen and you just cope, but you will!

As stated above call your payroll and find out what happens with your pay, so you know where you stand. Also make sure you have filled out your P46 so that you dont get charged emergency tax.

Do you rent? If you do, check out https://www.entitledto.co.uk and if you are working part time you should be able to get some help because of your health.

Im sure i you are over 25 you can claim working tax credits without having children( please can someone confirm this) which with you on a low income ( i presume with workign part time) you will get free NHs rescriptions and dental care.

Also, there is the 25% single occupency council tax dicount.

As for this weekend, try going all ready steady cook. See what you have in, and make a strange meal! It may turn out to be a great recipe. If you are missing something, pop around to your neighbour and tell them you are cooking a meal but forgot the ( milk/bread/sauce...). Or take te 70p and go get some value pasta/sauce and half pint milk.

You should be able to get a crisis loan monday to keep you going until your cheque clears.

Things that helped me on here was Grocery budgets, posting your SOAs, and challenges!

Some days I go into panic, but a good sleep and the phone off the hook I find often helps, that and ocming on here, there is always someone to help. I dont know what I would have done if I hadnt found this forum sometimes.

Not much help I know, but you can make up a Pasta n Sauce with all water and hardly taste the difference.

I'm pleased to see that you've already found Moozie and PaP's daily spend thread - it's great for keeping your spending in check.

Haven't been able to log on today 'til now, have been grappling with the heap of junk that passes for my PC.

I'm glad you feel a bit better today. I find that RL friends never get it. That's why whenever I get the chance I'm here instead :p

Everyone's suggestions have been great and I don't have anything constructive to add other than to say hi. I'm starting a job at the DWP tomorrow so, you never know, I might come home with all kinds of new knowledge to help people here (doubtful).
  • hey!

good to hear your cheque is in the post!

...just wanted to echo what everyone else has said with Big Hugs. I know how hard illness can hit finances- and another thing I've noticed is when I can't work my self esteem takes a nose dive. Don't know if that helps but it helped me to know that was quite a common feeling!

I'm so glad you are feeling better today :)
