This morning I received notification of new updates available. checked and one was KB2952664, which was one of those used to "prepare your system for Windows 10" and the other was a definition update for Windows Defender.
Anybody else received KB2952664? Why would I receive definition updates for an AV that I don't have on my system - I thought Defender was Windows 10 only!!!

Windows Defender is on 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.
It can be turned off but it's still there.0 -
^^ wot he said

yes, 2664 still pops up now and again, and I still don't install it
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

I'd want to know what the update is about for "preparing for Windows 10" is about. I have no plans up upgrade to 10 and when I do It will be a fresh install on new hardware, not an upgrade on my current systems.0

IIRC, it's MS telemetry stuff, and was to do with passing info back to them........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Yes, got offered it for Win 8.1 as well. Now hidden along with all the previous attempts to install telemetry on my system.0

Defender on 7 is just simply a rudementary anti malware ..
On W10 it includes sucurity essentials and is a full AV suite0 -
I have not had Defender turned on in W7 - especially as I didn't know it was there. I keep a list of "dubious" updates and always check before applying the update. It's hidden .................... again!0

I have it listed TWICE in my optional updates. 07/11/2017 & 11/07/2017 and the dates sound some alarm bells when they are seen together. This morning I received notification of new updates available. checked and one was KB2952664, which was one of those used to "prepare your system for Windows 10" and the other was a definition update for Windows Defender.

Defender on Win 7 is a bit of a waste of time and nothing like Defender on Win 10. I disabled it.0 -

If you are still using 7 and don't want 10 yet (like me) then you can stop 10 dead by downloading GWX Control Panel from here:
http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
