Your opinion, I have mine but ....Your reply is also "wasting forum space." A debate like this can provide information useful to some. It's a money-saving forum: anything pointing to a TV that may last longer than another, is good advice.
Your criticism is unwarranted and does you no credit. Why post such a carping response?
Mea culpa then :cool:Anyone else like to weigh in on this. I'd agree, except that the five year warranties offered by the likes of John Lewis and Richer Sounds are at no additional cost..Frozen_up_north wrote: »That is why those extended warranties are such a money earner for the companies selling them.0 -
I'd expect a TV to last for a minimum of 10 years. I'd hope for 20.0

I change the TV on a 3 year cycle usually, depending on any advances in technical specs or functionality etc.
That said, I gave my sister a Samsung LCD some years ago and its still going in it's ninth year.
If I was to keep one, I would expect a TV to last 5-6 years at least. I tend to buy with a 5 year guarantee, just in case...Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I'm certain TV manufacturers and sellers would love everyone to do this. Not very moneysaving though!I change the TV on a 3 year cycle usually, depending on any advances in technical specs or functionality etc.
To be honest, I suspect modern TVs are designed and built to last only around 5 years. Certainly, capacitors and Motherboards don't seem to last much beyond this before they need repair or replacement.0 -

Never said it was money saving.....I earn money to buy things I want, not necessarily need.

Hi guys thanks to all of you who have responded. I just wanted to have one more go to see if I can get a few more responses.
Just to clarify I wanted to know if you bought a t.v costing about £500 how long would you expect it to last before something major went wrong that necessitated a repair. Not through accidental damage or misuse just standard usage of about 2-3 hours a day.
Thanks again everyone0 -
Impossible to say, the manufacturer will have a distribution curve where some TVs will break down early in their life, some late, and more somewhere in between, but for an individual set nobody can predict it at time of purchase. At the risk of getting repetitive, if it's a concern to you then buy from somewhere that offers a better than normal warranty.0

All electronics have a very limited life now, a few years, due to EU regulations that ban use of lead in soldering all the electrical connections.0
