Bt extended my contract without permission

Options
Hello everyone, hope i'm posting in the right place.
If i'm not, forgive me as i'm new.
Basically BT extended my contract automatically and with no authorization/permission whatsoever.
I called last time in february 2018 to "REMOVE" a couple of things out of my account such as HD channel and an offer which was active on my landline, therefore i managed to bring the price from 59 £ to 51,49.
Now i'm trying to change provider as we need more speed in the flat, which unfortunately BT is not capable to offer. And they told me i'm stuck with them until february 2019. I was really shocked and wanted to kill myself... there was a huge misunderstanding as i never asked to renew my contract...nor i gave any confirmation. The guy from the call center simply thought or understood that was my wish, well obviously it wasn't and i'm really disappointed by it.
BT is a great company and i've been with them for over 4 years with no hassles no lack of connection or things like that.
It's really unfair the fact i'm not able to resign or that i have to pay the ramaining months to be able to do it, specially because i never asked for it. I know BT would normally extend you coontract when you activate or upgrade to new offers( i'm aware of that) but in my case it was a DOWNGRADE as i didn't add any new package, actually, i removed some of them.
And as it was a downgrade rather than upgrade, i think it's absurd i'm not entitled to resign without paying a cancellation fee, specially because my contract extension was entirely their initiative, not mine.
Please Help!!!!!!!!!

Your avenue is to make a formal complaint, which you can escalate if unhappy with the reply.

Don't despair,B.T are raising their Fibre prices in Junary. Is it Fibre you have?

If so, you will over the next few weeks receive an email informing you of the price rises, and saying you can get out of your contract penalty free if not happy.(this is law)

Then you need to call them up and tell them you will be migrating to a different supplier due to their price increase.

Make sure you get the persons name and make sure it is noted in your account, that is why you are leaving.

Change provider as BT is not capable of more speed . That means does it you are moving to VM .Other providers will be using BT to provide your flat .

[price drop subject to 12 month comittement , you may have misunderstood the jargon]

[A bit drastic somewhat] The guy from the call center simply thought or understood that was my wish, well obviously it wasn't and i'm really disappointed by it.

The pretty chugger type in the shopping centre claiming this and that are the ones to be moaning at or about.
They do the same with energy prices without even knowing what I pay.
