Used/ new Phone

I recently broke my phone and want to buy a new phone. I'm on a budget, so i thought of buying a used phone. Being a person who never purchased online I wanted to know of some things that I should consider before buying a used phone online. Would it be safe and look and work as promised? should i buy a new phone itself?
and do you have any suggestions about the type of phones that I could get at a low price?

Personally I would look for a cheap new Android

A secondhand mobile with its battery on the way out may not be easily replaced
  • I too would avoid second hand, you don’t know how good the battery is, or if the original owner claimed it lost/stolen then put it up for sale.

There are lots of good new phones around, make sure it is not network locked...
