Is it the case that all new TVs would "need" a wall mount?
No, but in the case of the OP he's already fitted one in readiness.

Modern flatscreens are easily hung on a wall, but will come with a removable stand.

In the Op's case part of the "bargain" price was that this stand was missing.

He could have purchased such a stand for far less than he paid for a wall bracket (and "fitting" cost, allegedly)

So he hasn't done anything to mitigate and so I doubt he'll be getting the cost of his bracket in addition to a refund.

VISA (Video Electronics Standards Association) wall mounts, although available in different sizes depending on the size of your telly, are standard brackets.
If you have to buy another tv it should fit.

So you've not suffered any loss, unless you're not intending having a tv now.

I can feel for the op.

I bought a really smart pair of red shoes - as they were red I bought a dozen pairs of red socks to match.

Long story short - sole came off red shoes - I returned the shoes and was refunded but same red shoes were no longer available.

Now left with 24 red socks which look daft with all my remaining shoes and are therefore useless to me.

The retailer wouldn't compensate me for the cost of the socks even though their product was clearly the root cause of me being financially inconvenienced so I decided to take the issue all the way.....

My legal bill now stands around £4k but I will continue to fight for what I know is right.

I consider myself lucky as I was on the verge of buying a very expensive pair of red trousers when the shoes fell apart so it could have been much worse.....
Was it really "everybody" that was Kung Fu fighting ???
  • How much did you pay for the socks?
How have you incurred a £4k legal bill?

just take the thing back and ask for a refund.
    What more do you want?
It was sold as seen wasn't it?
  • Hi people,

It's been a while with Christmas and everything. Just thought that I'd post back an update. I spoke with the manager who agreed with all my points surprisingly. Had a bit of paperwork and pictures with me raising the points I previously mentioned. The staff members agreed that the TV in question must have been knocked about a bit in the store-room prior to me picking it up and were apologetic about the way and information given when it was sold. I can't fault them for holding their hands up.

Long story short, I don't think that they wanted it back as they gave me a refund and let us keep the TV as a goodwill gesture so our family had something to watch over the Christmas period.

For those that helped, thanks. And for anyone in a similar situation, if you think that your in the right, stand by your guns.

Yeah - I was a bit worried OP couldn't work out the age of the model.

Or if you want to be pedantic...
    709 days...
1 year, 11 months, 9 days.. (Do i need to do hours?) oh and that was from this thread, so i guess take around a week off whilst it was in the storeroom

Hardly last years model, which was the point. That you completely missed, in a world of planned obsolescence it might as well be 5 years. If you were expecting last years tech, lets say so your 3d Glasses would work and they didn't because the dates didn't line up and there was a change over, or you wanted a feature brought in on a 2016 set. Would you be annoyed?

Maybe you should think before trying to be smart and belittle :rotfl:

Being honest you don't come out of this looking very good at all. You've delegated all responsibility to retailer without your own due diligence - you could have had the TV switched on in store to check dates if it was important to you but instead you don't and then challenge it afterwards.

Sometimes certain retailers get bad names and at other times they really don't stand a chance vs 'the customer is always right'

Enjoy your TV and good luck the first time you have to deal with them again for any issues with it

What do you mean? Are you suggesting that I go into a well known store that excels in customer service knowing every 'nut and bolt' about what I want to buy? I asked all the relevant questions that were reasonable at the time. Should I have to know every little thing about product or do you not think the people on the shop floor should help you make an informed decision?

You expect to have to be a bit more savvy when buying something off of 'fred' down the pub or from the local classifieds, not in a high street. Even the manager agreed it was misleading information, When I bought up the pricing issue (as I did earlier in this thread) He found out that the TV was never for sale at the price I was informed of, and there is some guidance on price regulations against that very practice...

I'm not always right by any means but some of the information in this thread might cause some poor people to 'suck it up' when they've been misinformed.
