Returning damaged washing machine

We bought a new washing machine online, installed it incorrectly which led to damage. I may have exagerrated a bit on the phone describing what had happened, before I realised we had caused the damage ourselves. They sent a replacement next day and installed it for free, the guys installing it saw what had happened to the old one when they took it and explained we had caused the damage.
As I have the new machine and the old one is gone, can the company turn round and say "actually you have to pay because you caused the damage" or am I in the clear?

Surely they would have given you an invoice at the time or the installers would have rung their boss to confirm0

I phoned up when I thought it was faulty, they sent a replacement and the guys installing the replacement said that the damage was caused by us not installing it properly but they still took away the broken one and left us the new one.0

Did you forget the transit bolts??
Would have expected them to tell their manager. But who knows. They probably don't see it at their problem.
However if it gets sent back to the manufacturer, they may notice and start kicking off...0 -
Yes it was the bolts... I've done them before but totally forgot this time!
If they have already replaced it and left then what rights do they have when it comes to them demanding a payment and if they make demands and I refuse to pay what would happen?
If it was a shop then once I'm out the door with a product then it's over so is it the same deal with online?0 -
If you refuse to pay a bill , expect you may have to deal with debt collectors.
If you’re worried about having to pay, why not just ask them to take the washing machine away..0 -

They can send you an invoice and if you refuse to pay, they can take you to court. A judgement against you is a CCJ, failure to pay following this and your credit rating is totally screwed. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
If I get an invoice I'll pay it. Guess I'll just hope for the best! So angry with myself for making such a simple mistake!0
