Courier problems

Can anyone advise me as to the best way of tackling this nightmare.

Couriers cannot find my house!!!! It is not difficult to find, it is on fact of a major A road in the Midlands, but the problem is the road is split into three street names, I live at no.7 but couriers keep trying to deliver to the 2 other no.7's of different street names.

This isn't with all couriers. So far it has happened with DHL and ANC, the latter happening today where I made a 32 mile round trip to pick up my parcel as advised by them - only to find out when I got there that it had been sent out on another delivery.

I am supposed to make this delivery today to a customer of mine and cannot gaurantee that I can do this which makes me look unprofessional, the other issue is the same company who sent the parcel to me is sending another for 9am delivery tomorrow as I need to delivery this first thing, so I am worried that the same will happen with the second parcel. What can I do to stop this happening again?

Also to add to the stress, the company I ordered the goods from are not answering the phone - can anyone advise who is at blame here and what I could say when complaining

Any help greatly appreciated.

does oyur street have a unique post code?
we get the same as we are a new street built on the old street end and it causes no end of issues to couriers using sat nav.
if possible i add a small comment to the comment box as to what bit we are at or add a small line to the address to help guide them
  • We have trouble with some couriers, as we live on the back side of back-to-back terraces. The postman (not that we've seen him for God knows how long) finds it fine, but couriers and takeaway deliverers struggle. I'd advise putting something on the order form, usually they have a place where you can add a comment, so you could mention it on there, maybe if your house has any 'distinguishing features'?!

On a different note.. is it just me, or are couriers ruder when RM are striking? We had a guy come round this morning, who was so rude, he just snapped at me to sign, print and then shoved the parcel towards me and stomped off! Someone got out of bed on the wrong side this morning! I know it's not usual of the company, so maybe they can afford to be a bit off with all the extra business the strikes are sending their way?..

You could give your house a name, that might help?

Just to add to the problems, the parcel I was waiting for that should have been here at 9am didn't arrive. I have checked with the other no.7's and they haven't received it. I can't even find out which courier it was with.

As a result I think I have lost the client and won't get paid for the goods, unfortunately I have already paid for them as I ordered them online, do I have any come back?

So you are taking orders for goods which you then buy online and sell at a higher price? Does IR know about your cottage industry?

lday can do her own defence I am sure, but yes, I believe you will find that she is fully registered with the IR!

Yes you probably do, it depends what you have purchased. The distance selling regs protect all online purchases http://www.oft.gov.uk/advice_and_resources/resource_base/legal/distance-selling-regulations/cancellation-periods

Even though you are a business this is statutory law so ALL online purchases are covered. There is however one exception and that is if the goods are highly personalised (such as print).

This said I believe that you will have to pay for the return of the goods, so don't accept them and then they will be returned to the supplier without costing you a bean :)

Oh dear why is it that some people on here just want to have a pop!!!!??

FYI Missile, I run a graphic design business who also supplies the printed goods, I don't charge an extra fee for the print I just charge for the design and what I have paid for the print + delivery, which I get printed locally as a rule but on this occassion decided to get them done through an online company.

These printed goods actually didn't turn up until the following Tuesday (and not before 9am on the Staurday as promised) I had to supply them to the customer at 50% discount as they were so late - which deosn't cover anywhere near what I paid for them!! The company I bought the print from said they would give me a refund but are now denying all knowledge of this conversation. Lesson learned - won't be buying online in future. Do I have any comeback?
