My MiL needed cataract surgery and was offered corrective lenses at her local NHS opthalmology unit. She declined as she was used to glasses, but had the cataracts removed.

I checked out Moorfields a couple of years ago and it was £4000 per eye with the surgeon I was interested in. If my eyes get worse, it's definitely something I will seriously consider. People spend more than that sometimes on an exotic holiday, and your eyesight is far more precious imo.
  • I have booked in for the op, I'm getting monovision fitted so I will be able to see distance and read close up as well without the drawbacks of graded lenses.
  • Surgery done, no unexpected problems so far and I would recommend it to anyone that has the money to pay for it, I wish that I'd had it done years ago, I would have saved a couple of thousand £

Glad it went well for you, but surgery is never without risk, and many people would not be willing to take that risk as sight is so precious.

Cataracts are not removed. A cataract forms on the lens making it cloudy so the whole lens is removed and a replacement lens is inserted into the void to prevent detached retinas in the future.
This automatically corrects your vision .

    Google it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

When the surgeons did my cataract surgery last year, they managed to correct my distance sight to 0.00 and -0.25. So now I just need glasses for reading.

I have a cataract on one eye. It’s appeared quite quickly and is causing me problems with driving and reading/computer work. And that’s an issue to my livelihood (I am 53) . Have high myopia with astigmatism.
Am on waiting list with nhs for cataracted lens removal with mono focal lens replacement But my CCG won’t fund the other eye which will leave a big imbalance.
So have decided to go private and quoted £2750 per eye for toric accomodating lens. I know several people who have had a good experience with this consultant.
I am hoping to be glasses free for most activities but may need readers for very close up work.
My varififocal glasses prescription costs about £550 and I replace my glasses each year partly due to prescription changes and also wear and tear. So I hope to at least break even financially over my lifetime. Quality of life is a huge positive.

Optimax have today quoted me £2995.00 each eye. Three years interest free. I am certainly getting cheaper quotes, but are they good!

    Is this for cataracts?

I had my right eye done there 5 weeks ago. It was done there but on the NHS ;-)

Edit, when I say there, I mean Optegra in Didsbury
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j
