It doesn't cost me £9 pm. I bought it. No ongoing cost. As to why it suits our life style. Coming home unexpectedly turn heating on by phone. Not coming home: switch off hot water. My gas bill was lower in the year after we had this installed. Other things can now be added. We have lights which come on if, for example we are due home or perhaps are out but wish to give the appearance someone is in. I understand it probably doesn't suit you but why tar everyone with the same brush?

Read the posts above with an open mind, and you might understand why. It may not benefit you, but it benefits many of us.

    I'm not paying £9 a month for mine either. I forget whether I paid £150 or £200.

I've not subscribed either, much cheaper to buy it out right. My faulty thermostat was remote control when I had the central heating installed 6 years ago. It was brilliant to have no additional wiring and be able to move the thermostat to any room I was in, if I wanted to.

A like for like replacement was going to be almost as much as Hive, so the internet accessibility made it a no brainer. Also, as at least one other poster has pointed out, you can add lights to the control which must be great for security. I think the idea of checking your home's temperature when you're out and switching the heating on if you want it warm by the time you get home, is a great idea.

Horses for courses but it clearly works for many of us.
