British Gas Hive.

My remote heating controls have died an an independent engineer has suggested that British Gas Hive is probably the best and cheapest way to go.
However, looking at the website it says you need an android phone or laptop as a requirement. My phone and laptop are windows based, so does this mean I can't use it? I thought it would be a website you just log in to. I'm just not very technical, so would appreciate some guidance if anyone has any.
Thanks in advance!

I don’t know about Hive, but I use Tado° which has a comprehensive web interface and a Windows app that would allow you to use the geolocation facility with your phone.0

There is a Hive website which you can certainly use from a Windows laptop.
The smart phone app is far easier to use, and they have apps for Android and Apple. They have just stopped supporting the Windows Phone App:-

Thanks both. I can see the value of the app, but it's not essential for my lifestyle.
Disappointing that they've stopped the windows phone app, but I'll be fine using the website from my windows laptop. I take it I'll have the same level of access and functionality from the website as the app gave? Therefore can I log on to the Hive website via any computer to see the temperature of my house and adjust the heating?0 -

Yes. And it's all fully controllable from the thermostat as well. I know some people prefer the thermostat to the app.
The Web site gives you a history of the temperatures in your home over time, which you don't see in the app.
You can also get email alerts if your home gets too warm, although these are mainly in the summer!
I love my Hive. My partner has odd working patterns, but its now very easy to change schedules on a daily basis. If you are going out you can turn the heating off, and turn it back on remotely an hour before you get home.
If you are going away, you can put it into holiday mode by entering your dates. It will then only come on if the temp drops below 7C, but you will come home to a nice warm home and have hot water.0 -

Thanks Nick, that's brilliant and confirmed my decision to go ahead.0 -
Hive is a massive disappointment, there is no requirement to actually use a phone, you can use it as you would with a normal thermostat. I have a hive control, it doesn't suck, but it's just not worth what they're wanting.[STRIKE]1/12/16 - £152,599.00 [/STRIKE]

Hi I have Hive and a windows phone. It works fine. You can log in to hive via your windows phone and bookmark the page. This sets up the hive tile on the homescreen for quick access. You can see the temperature history via this to.0

Hive works perfectly for us, indoors and on the move. Will be adding lights to it soon as well.0

Hive works via any Windows computer as well as any Android or Iphone. It's simple and it works and I am happy with mine to which I have added some lights. Not many people have a windows phone these days so not surprising Hive are no longer supporting them and they are not alone in this.0

Its simple and easy to use... pretty sound system0
