WARNING: BT sneaking "activation fee" onto broadband renewals

Morning all - first post on here - hopefully will be helpful for a few!
Following the BT price hikes, I logged in to see what upgrade deal they were offering, and was pleased to see they were offering to continue my current deal (£23.49 per month for Infinity 1) with this price locked in for 18 months, and a new BT Smart Hub. The only additional fee was £9.99 for delivery of the new hub.
However, on checking my confirmation email, it appeared BT had added on a £49 activation fee which had not previously been shown. Given the fee is meant to cover the activation of new Infinity accounts, that also meant it was not applicable to me as a current Infinity customer.
I contacted BT via their online chat system, and they confirmed the fee was going to be added onto my next bill, but they would take a note and ensure it was removed.
Had I not noticed this incorrect fee, I would have been left £49 out of pocket - so if you've gone ahead with the renewal process, it is worthwhile checking to see if they have sneakily tried to steal £49 from you!

Just logged in to check my BT Infinity 1 "great upgrade offer": £49.99 per month! Currently paying £31.49 for the same thing. My contract ends on 24th of this month so I will be off.0

I currently have Infinity 1 (50Mb) - the personalised offer I find via the email link is to keep the same price (£28) for the same Infinity 1 but now with 76Mb speed - 18 months contract.
Please read the "important information" further down: "Prices and terms subject to change during the contract term..."
As we know they announced the free Infinity 1 speeds upgrade to 76Mb now'ish... I will wait for that speed bump to happen and then give them a call to discuss options.0 -

Virgin will be available in my area within the next year, so I think I'll just chance it and switch to Plusnet for £25 per month instead and then next year give Virgin a whirl.0
