in Credit cards
Hi, first post. i'm looking to spread the cost of buying a cooker from Argos. i thought about getting an Argos store card but have heard bad things about store cards.
As you can probably tell i'm very new to store cards and credit in general. Just hoping for some advice. other options, things to look out for etc
Thanks

The main reason for putting the purchase onto credit is if you can get a 0% promotion.
I would consider regular credit cards before going straight for Argos. However, try an eligibility checker to see if you are likely to get anything.
If you have little credit history, you may not be able to get any good offers, in which case, saving up would be by far the best way.0 -

What bad things?
If you have an Argos Card and you buy something on a buy now pay later plan and you pay it off before the pay later due date you get 0% APR for the period. But if you don't pay it off before the due date you pay interest from the date of purchase. i.e you have taken out a six months buy now pay later plan and you don't pay it off on time you will have 6 months of interest added to the balance which will revert to normal credit.
Get the Argos Card mobile app if you get an Argos Cardand you should get a months notice notification of the due date approaching if you enable notifications.0 -
You also get a monthly statement which will tell you when any interest free periods are ending, tbh the Agos card is the only store card I have ever had.0

If you get an Argos Card make sure you understand the large cost you will incur if you don't pay off the debt before the end of the 0% period.
With a standard credit card you only start to incur interest charges once the 0% deal expires. With the Argos Card, interest will be charged from the date of purchase and at 29.9% this can be very expensive.
i agree with ZX81. 0% purchases credit card would be a safer option if you are able to get one?0 -
Just the amount of interest and Martin Lewis always saying stay clear of store cards.
Thanks for all the advice, i'll be able to pay off the card in time so that's probably the best option for me :beer:0 -
Can anyone help with advice.
My husband left me a year ago and left me with a lot of debt which is in my name. One debt is Argos. I pay £77 a month and £49 is interest. I’m struggling to pay it. I know it’s my fault but any ideas0 -

Currently sorting this out for my gf, got her to get the barclys 38 month balance transfer card. Am going to pay the Argos card on my credit card, then transfer it to her balance transfer card. Alternatively, get yourself a long term 0% new purchases card and put the Argos card on it.0 -

This wouldn't work as paying off Argos would not be a purchase.
Mazwaz16 - try the eligibility checker to see if you can get a 0% Balance Transfer card. Possibly if you have been left in lots of debt this might not work out but it is worth a try.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I might be wrong (and I usually am!) but I'm not sure if Argos will allow you to pay the Argos card with a credit card?0
