Buying Brand New Car Qs - Scrappage scheme & Car in partners name

My car broke down last week so I have decided to buy a brand new car for the first time using one of the scrappage schemes available and I am looking at a Hyundai i10 or a Kia Picanto.
First question is will the fact that my car doesn't start impact on the scrappage scheme use? It has a full clean MOT from last month.
Secondly I will be driving the car initially but it will eventually be used mainly by my girlfriend once she gets around to driving. If I put the car in her name will it effect me getting insurance on it?
And finally does anyone know what type of discount can be had against list price of an i10 or Picanto without the scrappage scheme being accounted for?
Thanks for any help you can give. If any further information is needed let me know.

Also worth looking at the Fiat Panda, the type of car Fiat excels at. Great wee cars with a super bomb proof engine.

You will need to buy the car in your name if the car to be scrapped is in your name.
You should be able to get a discount in addition to scrappage if you shop around. Get cash quotes 1st then ask if you can add scrappage, some will some won't.
Also ask about your car being a non driver, some dealers were insistant the car had to be drivable but some were not bothered.
Get hold of the full T&C for the scrappage scheme you are interested in.0 -
I will have a look at the Fiat. Hadn't looked at them as they weren't running any scrappage scheme.
I have checked the terms & conditions online but what I have found doesn't show much information and the Hyundai scrappage states it doesn't destroy my car given its euro emmisions rating.0 -
The question about my girlfriends name on the car was for if we buy without the scrappage scheme.0

Just looked at the Panda and unfortunately it only has 4 seats. I won't be carrying 4 passengers often but would like to have the option for when it is needed0 -

That makes no sense. You say you'd like the option of carrying four passengers and that Panda has four seats??0 -
Bear in mind that if it's the plan that your girl friend becomes the main driver you'll need to tell your insurers of this.0

Yes she hasn't passed her test yet so once she does the insurance will be updated to her being the main driver with me as a named driver as she would also use it for commuting where as I would just be social use so that would also need to be changed.
By 4 passengers I had meant 5 people in the car, the 4 passengers and the driver.0 -
Another thing to take into account is that the Fiat comes with only a three year warranty as against seven years for the Kia and five years for the Hyundai.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
