I was distress but now only a little. A nice, for big school next September seemed to become much less of a child over the summer holidays. Gone are the days when a few bits and bobs would have been really appreciated. What now I wondered?

Her mother told me she’s getting an iPad Air so an iPad Air ‘how to’ book will go down well. She loves reading. Can any of you mother/fathers out there who have went through that problem suggest a few ideas. I don’t like giving money or tokens it seems to suggest I think your are worth £x

    All ideas appreciated

I have bought a few more things, but not making a huge fuss this year.

We have our main Christmas meal on 24th, the rest of the holidays will be picky bits, cheese and biscuits, that sort of thing amongst ‘normal’ food - shops are only closed for 2 days, so we will manage to struggle on for 48hrs
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

    £300/£130

A manicure set and some glittery nail polish might go down well. If she has long hair - various hair accessories might also be well received. If you wanted something different, a pop corn bucket with an IOU for a cinema trip or sleepover/movies/duvets/girls night at yours could be an option.

I'm trying to buy food bits/booze each week if thing I know we'll use go on special offer.
  • Caronc, so is she just starting Year 6?

So many things could work - a meal out or to prepare together...pizza night or the likes, a new novel and some snacks to enjoy whilst she reads, stationary, ticket to a show (Horrible Histories or something she's 'in' to)...

Also agree on the hair, cinema/film/night in with you/nails bits and pieces options already mentioned.

Christmas cards all written, I have started to hand deliver the ones that I can as I see people (to save on postage).

Sister, brother in law and nephew’s Christmas presents all bought, wrapped and delivered at the back of October. They live three hours away and I won’t be seeing them this Christmas. They have all the brother-in-laws family ovet this year.

Brother’s and his family all bought and wrapped, all ready for Christmas Eve.

Bother-in-law and wife’s presents wrapped up tonight - ready to deliver.
Friend’s all wrapped up - seeing her tomorrow - last time before Xmas.

Hopefully buying the rest tomorrow night and this weekend.

Food - I am having everyone to stay for the new year weekend. Made and tested a panatone bread and butter pudding. Going to start to menu plan this weekend for the festive period. Sister-in-law has already made the pickled onions and pickled cabbage. I have made the Christmas chutney and piccalilli. Black currant (from the garden) pie all made, in the freezer.

Can't sleep so thought I'd update.
Bought a new and more manageable Xmas tree yesterday from B&Q. Many thanks to the person who suggested that store. Plus it was seniors day and got 10% off too ! Also bought some more items to go in DD's hamper.
Today I'm heading to Toys*us to finish off ( I hope ) DGS presents as I have already finished DGD.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently
