Why don't you send them a private message then you can't be accused of using the site for selling?

The post you are replying to is over a year old.

I'm currently studying to be a knitwear designer with city and guilds. I've been knitting for 30 years but would still quite like to have a qualification behind me. I would quite like to work freelance from home once qualified. I've enjoyed reading this thread and seeing what other people do - we seem to be a nation of clever, crafty people!

    Hi,

It's a three year course. If you're interested in doing it, you'll need to register before December this year as C & G are doing away with it as there's not enough interest. I do mine through www.distanceknitting.com. Fiona Morris is my tutor and she's really good. Feel free to get in touch if you want more information - it's a good course.

You've already posted that elsewhere, and had an answer. Make sure you check your other thread.

    Dear LizD,
you mention that you give sewing lessons, how much are they and how can I get in touch with you for these lessons apart from this forum?
  • Daz501, I used to do the same sort of thing, though my paintings were much smaller and of more niche subjects. I made a good amount of spare cash from it in my 3rd year of my degree (back in 2006) and continued to sell a few while I was working in subsequent years, but these days the market is saturated and the popularity of sites like Redbubble has made it even harder. Nevermind eh, onto the next thing!
  • Hello,

Some very interesting information on this thread, however I have not found an answer to my question.

I have imported lengths of acrylic direct from china. I am then partially heating the acrylic and putting a bend in it to form a handle. The result is an acrylic walking stick that many people admire (my gf uses one and is always getting complemented on it).

So, all good up to now, I have 40 of these made and ready to go. However we are struggling to find an insurer that will offer public liability insurance due to the acrylic being bought direct from China. The issue is the insurance company would struggle to settle a potential claim due to the supplier being in China.

I have had a quote of £71 which I was about to pay for I mentioned the fact the acrylic was from China and we became non insurable, I've had this a few times now.

So I suppose I'm wondering if anyone else has been in this position and if so do they have any tips/advice/links?

    Thanks, John.
  • Hi
I'm looking at starting making jams and jellies to be sold in christmas hampers, I'm hoping to start this for christmas 2015 shopping season. Could people advise if I need to register with HMRC, as I am not expecting a high profit and will only be selling in the few weeks running up to christmas (at markets etc.)

I'm going to get food and safety level 2 certified and I'm trying to find out if I will need to be registered under food standards agency as a food business but us there anything else I'm missing?

    Thanks
