Well Froctober has gone way out of the window when it comes to cars this month.

Firstly a £750 bill for Mr TS's van, he took it for a service as the oil light came on the last time we did a long trip and got stuck in traffic and the handbrake hasn't been quite right since he got it. And also the horn was not working (obviously essential to a white van driver :rotfl:).

We don't think his dad's mechanic actually serviced the vehicle properly. A lot of work needed doing to the brakes. :( I know things go wrong but his dad said it had just been serviced before he gave it to him in February and as I said the handbrake has never been quite right. Also we had the over £300 bill back in February for a "noise" which turned out to be something quite dangerous if it had gone completely.

Then we have the big expense of DD3 buying a car. She had saved £500 and I said I would match it but then looking at cars around the £1000 mark was setting me in a panic so I have ended up helping her buy a car just over £3000

I feel much happier she is driving in a car that is really up together and it has less than 20,000 miles on the clock so it should do her a few years hopefully.

And finally I have been getting an awful noise from the back of my car when I go over bumps so took my car for it's overdue service and investigation and ended up with over £800 bill on that too.

While doing the service they noticed a gasket leak and the water pump was leaking and I have had one go on a car before while driving so I said just replace it now, unfortunately when they did there was a hairline crack in another part and when they took it off it broke completely so I had to pay for that bit too. :(

The noise was actually coming from the drop links on the anti roll bar at the front so they have been replaced. And the brake fluid had to be replaced, ended up being a long list but it is the first money I have spent out on the car since getting it. Most of the bill was for parts. But it is driving lovely now. :T

So I really need to embrace Froctober from now to bring the rest of the spending for the month down. :o

Virtually everything looks good on the hanger and dreadful on me now - thankfully you can try things on at home with Sainsburys things - Marks dont allow returns on sale stuff so I try them on in store

You can still return online M&S sale within 14 days I think it is. Although often if I have bought things for my DD's by the time I see them it is after the time limit.

Do they stop returns in store at 70% off mhoc I'm never sure? I know you can't return 90% but that is often worth the risk for things for Mr TS or my DD's.

  • JTS could i have the recipe for the limoncello muffins please,i may have a few bottles to use.:rotfl:

    Hi bargainqueen :A
Mine are rather simple and I use same for cake or muffins/cupcakes - I just use a classic Victoria Sponge batter, with the zest of a couple of lemons added.
Then when the cake/muffins come out of the oven, I gently trickle limoncello on the top until all absorbed.
To get a crunchy top like a lemon drizzle cake, I mix the limoncello with granulated sugar before pouring on top. The limoncello soaks into the sponge, and the sugar will solidify on the top when the sponge cools down.

Lucky you having "a few" bottles :)

I've got £2 off wine when I spend £10  why they gave me money off bread loaves I have no idea, and I have save 50p when you spend £5 on confectionary. I suppose technically i have bought confectionary there so more understandable.

Doubt if any will get used, not buying wine at the moment (unless there is a monumental bargain).

Both of ours are in for MOT and servicing at the end of this week and next and I am dreading what they are going to find - I don't know why OH thinks the servicing is really needed as the average miles is only about 3000 now.
But the main car has the one sided banging noise which has gradually been getting worse and something is def loose - its fine on the bypass but on the normal cart track roads it clangs about in a terrifying fashion.

I suppose you have to be philosophical about it, at least there is the money there to cover it but even so it feels like you try and save all year and you then get a run of unexpected/expected- but- dreaded expenses and your savings just dwindle away ...
