Good morning everyone. Happy Sunday. I am still in bed which is very unusual for me. I did not wake up until nearly 9am which is unheard of for me. I have not been well this week and have a heavy cold, but the good news is I have lost nearly 5lb - I am sure I will put it back on when I start eating again, but i am going to try and stick to sensible eating to see if I can loose another half a stone by Xmas which will be good.

I had sell for £1 on Ebay so have sat and listed quite a bit with still more to do. I am going to try use some of my new free time clearing some clutter.

It is good when visiting Asda not to have to walk around and womble - although it will effect my steps as that was most of my exercise. Also i do not feel the need to call in on my way home, so have got in from work earlier as well, although still have quite a few wombles to spend over next few weeks which luckily I have had no problems with so far.
    Nice nana cake TM.

Sorry to hear you are unwell elaine. Hope this evening finds you better.

I've made a bit of a start on my stash room. I am shocked at how much I have:o And not in a good way:o I have to get to grips with it all.

I've meal prepped for lunches and dinners all next week and made a start on all the 10p ready meals filling the freezer. They won't be replaced. I've bought stuff in the past as it was cheap but nothing beats a home cooked meal.

I've just, finally, coming round to having a look at my list - I'm going to struggle my way through with me not having much heart to do it I'm afraid due to the comparisons now being inapplicable. However they are there so we can, supposedly, try to avoid paying too much at A (or indeed T) although some prices will have changed. I am actually spurred into starting with the list, up to the information I got on 24th September (I know, so long ago:rotfl::doh:), on seeing that M had gone to £1.50 RTC on each of the two versions I found of its frozen Light Dusted Cod which were, are a buy in M. So there is hope yet. That was actually from Monday 22nd, a couple of the items I may have not yet got round to updating.

So, what happened to the Cake Rusk?

[Strike]Regal Foods Cake Rusk Original (28 per pack - 650g)[Strike]£3.35[/Strike] £3.00 £3.08:eek::eek: Full price in M.[/Strike] Avs T £2.50 until APG ends then buy in T until 6/11/18 unless A betters £2.50 price on the shelf.

Prices have changed in more than one supermarket and it seems T has gone lower, to £2.29; however A has also gone down or maybe it dragged T down, and seems to be the cheapest place at £2.20:(. :(:(:(I wish somewhere else was cheaper - I don't like buying in A when that product isn't 10% cheaper than T (or S, but we would have chosen T). It's better than what I was having you do as a comparison against T at £2.25 though:(:rotfl:. Just check that this product hasn't gone down to something like £2 in M. You'll have to do that work for yourself I'm afraid as I don't have an M near enough to me that has this product. I think we'll just forget about this item to be honest - we don't need Cake Rusk!:rotfl::eek:

Fwiw, assuming there isn't any better price outside of the four supermarkets, this one should currently be "Buy in A, with reluctance, unless M is cheaper."

If M is cheaper, probably buy there enthusiasically:D:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.

I just don't like what A have done to me. I have seen some "lower" A prices instore today - I notice SP Vinegar superficially looks as if it has come down from 24p to 21p. Assuming M's price has not changed, this now matches M's price (so buy in M since we don't like price matched A putting up its price from 10% cheaper via the APG to price match:rotfl:). Most of the customers in A who have been purchasing the product for the last several months, who are shopping in Great Britain and not doing a comparison check, either of their own by visiting M and buying in there and not buying it in A or by buying it at A using the PG, may now think "ooh, an even lower price!" and be happy:wall::wall:.

They should be sad - not only have they kept being overcharged by 3p per time by A in recent months compared to buying it in M, the previously-available comparison on a targeted M shop would have effectively got it a bit lower than M. All these not 10% cheaper items that are now merely price matched have effectively gone up a few pence each. Unfortunately this is too complex for the wider public to understand, even though it is readily understood on here. I noticed another SP item that was a few pence more expensive on the shelf price (and has been that straight, more expensive price for us since Wednesday night) has also now matched what I suspect is still M's price. Customers who noticed the price in front of them and saw the changed price now in front of them would think it was now lower as it looks that way on the print on the shelf, although, instead of saving anything, they were being overcharged by A compared to M (on this specific item) before. It is yet another item that has, in effect, gone up in price for me as it would always have worked out constant 10% cheaper - the A shelf price didn't matter. Now it does and it stands out in bold for me as more expensive. However, it doesn't matter: A know that fewer than 1% of people are wandering the store and seeing that it has gone up for those that have no staff discount card, now a comparison against the competitor is no longer available. It's gone up for those targeted APG comparers, fewer than 1% of customers. And that staff discount only gets 10% cheaper than a competitor as long as the price the product scans through at A is the same price as the competitor (or the same price as any consistent incorrect SELs in the majority of what were the price collection stores for the APG:rotfl:).

I certainly shan't be buying what looks like expensive Savoy Cabbage at 55p in A. Savoy Cabbage is 50p in M. However, should I find a whoopsied cabbage, it's possible that it could be cheaper in A than a whoopsied cabbage that might have been available to me at the same time in M (although, since I can't be in both places at once, I may never know). Anyway - I hope no-one here (certainly shopping outside of Northern Ireland) buys Savoy Cabbage from A at 55p as you are overpaying compared to M. In Northern Ireland, I don't know whether 55p from A might be the cheapest you could get. There should certainly be whoopsies cheaper and of course Lidl and other places need to be checked.

These being items that are sticking out to me in A - and they just happen to be cheaper or same price in M. They could have been cheaper or same price elsewhere and then I'd be saying go to that other (non-M) competitor and get them there if needed. Certainly do not overpay in A (even with wombles I would say) if something is cheaper elsewhere. The womble value is still like cash money. And avoid if you can - certainly after your APG vouchers are completely gone (or I hope not expired) - items that aren't 10% cheaper being price-matched (which is not easy on regular priced items that are not whoopsies) as I see that as rewarding A for putting its price up from being able to be 10% cheaper net. in a target comparison to now being price match. That's what price matching sometimes meant - retailers move items down in price but also move them up in price to match competitors' higher prices. It wasn't always a good thing. Here, it's like we had 'bought wrongly' and moved items up from us getting them for A's price to getting them for 10% cheaper than a much higher priced competitor whose prices mattered on the APG - it ended up taking those items for more, taking its price to 10% cheaper than the competitor on everything that compared. Now we can't get items for 10% cheaper than competitors that are lower price or 10% cheaper than price match - A, where it hasn't gone 10% cheaper than a competitor (and then no change for us even if we are no longer buying what would have been enough items), has moved those prices for us up to being A's shelf price (assuming that our store displays the correct price:rotfl:).
  • Well, we had roast beef with Yorkshire puds, followed by home made pumpkin pie. One of the best investments I have made, cooking pan wise, is one of those loose bottom tart pans with holes in, designed to crisp the pastry. Does a lovely job :D

Forgot to post the rest of dinner :o

To be honest, although the pork rillettes was delicious, it was perhaps a bit too "lean". Perhaps adding a bit of melted fat or butter after potting it - or having it on buttered bread instead of dry sourdough as I had it. I try to be as healthy as possible in my recipes, and it's difficult to balance taste and healthy.
I"ll try the next portion on hot buttered toast :)
With you on that JTS health v flavour.

Also think rillettes may need a few days to 'mature'.

    Good morning

There was a thick frost here at 6 am this morning, but clear and sunny now, good day for Giants.
I am also having a stash clear up, well moving anything suitable from bedrooms to loft as have had a ladder, new hatch, light and flooring installed.
The hope is i can get one of my two spare bedrooms, back to being a bedroom.

:(You're like me, never able to time it right. I have found I am a little freer as to times I go to A, as I don't have to wait until just after lots of other shoppers will have visited now (to find wombles) but can go wherever I want - as long as I check everything in advance!

I feel I need to go on some day on which it is heavily raining later in the month. Shopping on these dry, even if a little cold, days leaves me seeing receipts that look new and perfect, on many of which A won't be 10% cheaper. I could do with them not looking so perfect and uncrumbled that would have been fantastic to have taken in the past.

    Yes that's the one :D

Thank you very much. I need to visit T tomorrow and will scout around.

I have been sorting my stash and the number of tins of peas is testimony to the number of planned APGs I have done, though a lot went to the food bank too. It's very sad that it is all over.

Mind you, I did well in the rtc section of Morries this morning with pacs of 20 paper serviettes for 25p, some oven bulbs reduced to very little and some pencil cases reduced to 32p and perfect for shoe boxes.

    Evening :)

Anyone spotted these RTCs in M&S, I'm certainly going to have a look in my local tomorrow. We get through a lot of wholegrain rice and 25p would be fantastic.
