"She grabs a basket, knowing shopping has changed. Now, for the first time in several years, if she could have got something cheaper elsewhere, she'll have just overpaid."
    Parody of original APG advert.

Actually she still has been overpaying on some items, if there were similar products elsewhere but in very different pack sizes on much better prices per unit, or for example a product was not at least 10% cheapest than the cheapest place but there was no comparable item at the competitor whose comparison mattered as it was the best overall. People may have been getting some things cheaper but overpaying on others and if they didn't buy 8 items. Many of those shops might not have had offsetting items and may not have been 10% cheaper - probably half the time same price as elsewhere. It was a very clever scheme, that was clearly thought about and thought through by whoever devised it at the time but it also did (more than occasionally:rotfl:) offer 10% cheaper and more when put to the test. It was therefore not a con. It was also thought through before it was launched, unlike at T, where they introduced what was, for us, overall even better with DTD price check with a single item and backfired for them.

In fact, 'she' (in general, not us 1% minority) probably won't know much has changed at all, but will shop in the same way as usual, putting everything in one big shop and paying more than a competitor for some things - plus those full price items that people buy that were giving us money. Competitors may now be cheaper for us, and, for us, A may now have to at least match them on the price paid instore or through online ordering.

For us, two things may be initially hard:
Stopping ourselves picking up receipts (unless they are T or S receipts with unclaimed loyalty points:rotfl:).
Actually buying at the cheapest place - that's a new thing, that I have not been used to for over five years:rotfl::rotfl:. Me and one of my SAs had a laugh about this - I could be overpaying a lot now if I get it wrong.

Things go in swings and roundabouts - something is introduced to remedy a problem and later it goes the other way and all the problems that the original thing was intended to remedy come back.

No unfairness as everybody is treated equally. No injustice either as you can continue to check until 3rd October, it's now the 4th and you would have to wait 3 hours from your shop to do any check (something less than 1% who did so would more likely be more aware of) - we saw this situation in advance and dealt with it. The answer is people shouldn't have shopped after 9pm at A if they were buying more expensive items than elsewhere, as they knew they had 3 hours to wait to check, which could not be done, and this is all fully and fairly disclosed in the T&Cs. From 9pm onwards, if something was cheaper at a competitor, people should have shopped at the competitor. A doesn't guarantee to be 10% cheaper anymore, which may also mean that some people, perhaps wrongly at times, might think that A will be more expensive now and shop elsewhere (I am talking about people generally and not people on this thread - people generally lack knowledge that people on this thread don't). Certainly if something - and it was quite a few items - was (is) cheaper at a competitor that A were bettering before, only through the APG, then the price it can be obtained for from A has just gone up (and quite drastically in some cases) and it is now best to buy at the competitor (unless you have any discount in A on product-specific manufacturers' coupons or colleague discount, APG vouchers do not count as they are still paying A's prices from them, that makes the cost for you less than the competitor's price).

In addition, everything that could have 10% off a competitor as part of a shop, on which A weren't cheaper, has now gone up to price match at best unless you have a staff discount card. Unless the price in A has gone down today and they are now cheaper than their competitors on the item.

I am sure that the central HQ of A wouldn't want staff to be wrongly refusing APG vouchers as the last thing they would want would be to alienate us altogether and have us shopping elsewhere. Although I am sure we will still continue to shop from A for items on which they are the best place to shop. The best thing for T to do now would be to accept APG vouchers. Though I suspect that sort of thing is long past and doesn't pay T as they get no money from doing so, unless they have us buying extra items from them, beyond our APG vouchers, when we are there.
