Like I said, I was late to realise the opportunity so I'm still toying with it.

I got a coffee this morning using a new card that I picked up at the same time, registered it online after making the purchase and it showed in my account as having 110 points on it.

I took my daughter for lunch (putting points from that visit onto a different card ;)) and then redeemed the 110 points on this mornings card to get my 2 free chocolates.

if you register the card in advance you could probably scan it with your £2.45 gift card and then immediately after that transaction say "oh, and can I use my points to pay for this too whilst I'm here?"

Free chocolate works for me but there are other things near to the £1 mark that you could get instead. You just have to remember that the points need to cover the full cost, you can't part pay with points

If your Costa is anything like mine, sometimes you have to move a cup or two from a vacated table to clear a space for yourself. If you are feeling in a helpful mood like this, you can often womble a few points which staff will add on your next visit. ;)

Wasn't that the reason it got canned though?

Not guilty. I lived a 30 mile round trip from a machine so we only took sackfuls about once every month or so and often as not the machine was broken ...
I wasnt using the machines daily

Well by the time we got to Costa this morning I was blowing steam. No idea why but the traffic this morning was horrendous even at 10 oclock so instead of doing shops first we headed in the wrong direction for coffee.
Our costa is getting worse. It has a serious damp problem which is steadily getting worse, really stinks.

Finally getting home the back door key wouldn't work - the mechanism inside which had been jiggly for a long time had finally gone. Fortunatley OH who was having a morning off, managed to use a bit of metal, twisted and got it lifted up and the key turned
Then we found a locksmith who came out this afternoon and fitted a new lock for £90 - so not a very MSE day

MSE article on Tesco recycling plastic bottles here.

The bottles have to be 750ml or less and have to be big brands or Tesco own make, not other supermarket brands.

Well that’s pish poor... plastic is plastic!

When I have more time I will investigate exactly how the machine works. I wonder what happens if a bottle has no label.

The positioning of the machine between the customer service desk and the security guard station, suggests they are keeping an eye on it.
