Good morning all, sunshine between the clouds this morning :D

Sounds like a power supply unit problem to me. Also worth trying a different power socket.

I tried a different socket but no joy. I don't know if something failed in the computer and blew the fuse on the house supply or vice versa. My usual repair guru says it might be a simple fix but worst case scenario is that the power failure has blown the main board - off to see him in a minute. I did wonder if it could be a blown fuse in the power lead plug but I haven't got a spare one handy .

Most likely something burning out and sorting the motherboard which unless you are an electronics whizz can not be repaired but because pcs are plug and play it can probably be replaced cost effectively. Our main house pc is on its third mobo, just replace like with like from eBay, takes about an hour.

Unlikely to be the plug fuse on the power lead, the rcd in the consumer unit will trip long before this blows.
    I think....

My mother in law has been in care for 2 years but took a turn for the worse 4 weeks ago and has been in hospital. Social worker came yesterday and we all went for a meeting. Her care home says she cant go back as she is less mobile ( although she has been like that for at least a year ) so social worker is looking for another home. She is basically bedbound, has a cathether in ( which may be removed ) and they are having trouble getting her heart to work properly and a bedsore.
However they say she has no medical issues so NHS wont fund her care. What a joke. I have never seen anyone so ill who was not a few days from death. Then care home called and said her room needs emptying asap.
    very sad

My repair guy thinks it is probably the motherboard. Unfortunately the computer is an all in one unit and the 'gibbons ' are all in a very restricted space - he says these cannot be replaced in such units. He is going to take the back off and see if the problem is just a fuse or something simple. The lead and plug was ok.

Something to divert me from my passport worries - my perishable nag computer has bust ! It was working fine yesterday when the power suddenly went off. I thought we'd had a power cut but when I checked the circuit board one of the socket feeds had blown - when I switched that back on the computer was still dead even though the surge protector it plugs into was looking live. I can only think that something has blown in the computer and that's what threw the socket feed. Good job I have the iPad as a backup.

    oops.

This queue is a very slow one.............. I have been in it since 1.38pm on July 30th:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
