The photo is 10 years old so I do need a new one. As I can't afford any mistakes I really think it would be best to use the PO method - at least I will be certain that the application etc gets there. I am wary of the online method incase of problems/delays.

Surely 30 days should be long enough ? I need a stiff drink.
They initially tell you straight away if the pic is no good. then honestly, anything wrong with it, they tell you within a day, 2 at most, and you can just re-submit. Just make sure the pic has a plain light background and it will be fine.

I did my nieces last month, the pic was rejected, which they told me about the next day, and I still managed to get the new passport delivered within a week and a half. They email/text you are every stage, it was amazingly efficient for a government service.

Dave - I dont know when your next cruise is booked for but on Groupon the Grand Harbour Southampton has various deal offers eg burger and beer, afternoon tea, unlimited breakfast etc .... they tend to be valid for 4 months from the date you buy them which takes us up to November-ish.
Its the breakfast one I am struggling with -I had a 50% off code as I'd not used my Groupon account for ages so I bought the deal. You then have to book online via the groupin link and thats where I am stuck. Probably the links work for everyone except me :)

    Afternoon all.

    Raining here :(

Had a right journey yesterday, got caught up in the chaos that was the east coast line when the signalling box was struck by lightning, never been on a train so packing in my life. Was utter madness, and didnt even manage to get my free drinks for being in 1st class as they could not even walk down the isle, never mind get a trolley down. Fortunately I had sent my cases up separately, or I would not have managed to get on the train. Bless, there was one family near me that had traveled all the way from Australia as his dad was ill and he wanted to see him one last time, but he passed away while the poor bloke was stuck on the train :

You can get them done in some PO they do the photos, check and send we did our driving licence's there

Bubbs, my DH thinks he heard the PO lady say something about doing the photos when we went in a while back to pick up a form. Its not a proper main PO though, just a small one set up in Smiths after they shut the main one down. I will phone first thing Monday and see what they say.

Don't you have to send them your old passport though ?

Yep, and they also give you updates on that. I just sent mine first class, but you could do it special delivery, so guaranteed next day. You could have the full application done before the 9 o'clock film starts tonight. If you are unsure about your pic, you can even google for passport booths that provide you with a code to put on your online application.

its supposed to be Marco Pierre white now so they must have revamped the dining experience :D but the breakfast was always good anyway.

Its worth just going into the lobby to go up and down in the glass lift - very nice view over the solent

We have been 3 times I think - Grand Harbour used to be a devere hotel so we had family rates when youngest son worked there. On our very first cruise we stayed there the night before - it was very MSE - family rates hotel with breakfast and Mr T deals for the cruise. 2nd time we booked 2 rooms as we were taking eldest son down to start his phase 2 training just north of Portsmouth. 3rd time was the free overnighter.

I was trying to do the breakfast deal as we are in Travelodge central the night before - the thought of another Greggs meal is too much :rotfl:
