morning all Yesterday I had a call from edf they want to install a smart meter has any one got one and are they worth having also more important does any one know of a pub chain that is giving away a free pint to ex servicemen this coming Armed Forces Day

Man came to install a smart meter here, seemed like a bit of a faff, so I asked him if it was really necessary, and did he have one?
He said it wasnt really worth the bother because a new generation of smart meters was coming soon, so may as well wait for that.
The electric company are just trying to meet government stats.
So needless to say, no smart meter here!

I have had one since they first came out.

EON offered me £50 to have one :money:

When you first have one you are obsessed with checking it and soon find out with electric which appliances make it run faster. Electric fire is top one in my house.

I would recommend them but that's just my view :)

We have had a smart meter for about 12 months now. First thing to go was the tumble drier  Has also educated the kids into not putting the oven on just to cook 2 sausages :rotfl:

It's down here in Devon :D.

Thanks for the yoghurt heads up! Although I don't think I'll make the trip today, we've still got loads of Mullers and Fage pots left.

I noticed that Shreddies Max are back on Shoppmium for 50% off two different flavours. They're £2 in A's, and £1.50 in M's. However on MySupermaket the Cranberry and Oat is showing as out of stock in M, and on the M website only the plain oat is visible, and also out of stock. So I'm not sure if this is much help at all!!

I only have a small tumble drier and it doesn't use much electric but fire DS put it on in winter for couple hours and my daily usage went up just under £5

I have a combi oven as well as normal cooker but use combi more and hobs on normal cooker.

Heads up - the BClays double Cashback offer ends on Friday. I applied but have to go into a branch to prove my identity - how very dare they .

I will not be bothering as they have annoyed me - any online check with any credit check would prove my identity. HEsbc was the same rigmarole and we had our mortgage with them!

Did anyone get an instant acceptance?

    Anon

I got instantly accepted for my account, but DH had to go into branch with ID. It was my fault really as when doing his online application it asked two questions to prove his ID, and I did not recognise the end 4 digits to one of his bank accounts ...he has a few :rotfl:
Made appointment and he was in and out in 15 minutes, switch all set up too...so not too bad.

If you dont need to have a smart meter yet, I would say wait for the second generation ones to come out. Then when you switch companies, the meter can be used by the new company. Currently with first gen meters this is not the case, so a hassle if you switch regularly, like all the elite do ;)

Our electric company keep sending us letters saying they want to install one but we keep binning them, we are waiting until we have to have one as it will serve no purpose for us, we have no superfluous usage and the meters turn dumb if you change suppliers at the moment.

Quite funny, a few years ago we had a meter that you attached to the power cord near the meter and it measured the electricity consumption, there was nothing we used that we could turn off and no way of cutting down the consumption except for one - we unplugged the meter.

If we want to know how much power one unit uses we have an individual power consumption meter that plugs into the socket and you plug the unit into. That was how we knew our old freezer was getting bad, we used that and found out it was using a lot more power than it should be.

Simple rule of thumb is not to keep things on standby - our TV will not turn all the way off so it is on a socket with a remote off switch and gets turned off when not in use, several standby items are on that extension lead.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
