So my Llovelies, I've been to visit That Sister and we talked about the elephant in the room.. I have not expressed my own opinion as this is her life & her decision :A

So I'm feeling rather sad & emotionally battered & may be away a while to come to terms with this

tweets dearest Cariad - can you step in & post the QUIZ for a few days please?

Bestest & warmest wishes All xxxxxxxxxx

Afternoon all. I'm just popping my head round the door after a very stressful few weeks of not even lurking due to family situation, as I couldn't help but post after seeing this.

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister Snap, I know exaxctly what you're going through as my FIL was diagnosed with throat cancer around the same time as your sister. As it was fast growing he had a full 'replumbing' operation including voice box removal so he now breathes through a hole in his neck. Unfortunately, despite treatment and an initially positive response from the surgeon, he also received the worst possible news last week. DH is travelling up to visit him today as he knows it will be the last Fathers Day they have.

I have to say, I was originally all for encouraging him to fight it with everything possible, but having seen how little pleasure he now has from life, as he can't speak, which means he struggles to communicate with people who can't lip read, and he can't even eat or drink (he has a peg tube), I can understand why someone may prefer to accept it and to go with dignity. It's horrible him and for all the family to watch him go downhill, and I'm sure if he'd known this is how things would turn out, he would have decided not to have treatment in the first place.

My thoughts are with you and all your family. There is no right answer when every option is bad. Just take care of yourselves and each other.

After reading your post I need to send you a huge virtual hug. Your poor FIL to lose the power of speech and not be able to eat or drink at the end of his life journey is heartbreaking. My beloved Dad who we lost to terminal cancer had all his favourite things and we spent many hours talking.
Life can be so bl**dy cruel.
To everyone who is lucky enough to have their Dad still with them hug them hard and show them how much they mean to you.

I am off now to lay flowers on my Dads grave, instead of sharing the big family BBQ/Roast we would of had if he was still here.

The retirement malarkey does take a bit of getting used to doesn't it? I guess I started out thinking 'Well, there's plenty of time to do that tomorrow!'
We are slowly, and it seems to be very slowly, refurbishing the house. I think I got things done quicker when I was working full time.

I wouldn't go back though and I make sure that I do things I like or try something new.

    Just enjoy.

I think that is one way of thinking you cant get in the habit of doing - thinking there is always a tomorrow or a next week and you can put jobs off until later. I think its even more important to be on top of the normal household drudgery and the endless paperwork and always be in a state of readiness.
You never can tell what the next day will hold and quite possibly it could be something fun :j.
For instance last week I got tickets for the Good Food show on Thursday lunch time - after a bit of thought it was decided on going on Friday - nothing desperately waiting to be done so off I went on Friday morning.

(and also another reason for not procrastinating - someone I know died in their sleep on Thursday night/Friday morning - so for her there was no next day - so better to do things sooner rather than never ....)
