    who took part in this windfall Wednesday this morning and what did you get?

    Still waiting for the M&S vouchers from last weeks shindig with H&B which had an estimated date of May 1st - so maybe tommrorow

    Good Afternoon. Just got my Annual Reward summary from Halifax.
    Gross Reward £45.00
    Tax Deducted £9.00
    Net Reward £36.00
    As Banks no longer take interest off at the source, this doesn't seem right, anyone else had this?
    Called Halifax, said my own branch will have to call me back. Booked before 5 pm, still waiting :(

    I agree this doesn't look right. Are they using old software from 2008?

    I've asked about this in branch.
    Apparently it's not interest but is a reward, so it's taxable.
    This was last year when I asked.

    Interesting.
    Did this come as a letter or was it one of your online messages?
    I thought as it was classed as a "reward" rather than an interest payment there was no tax applicable - so it does not count towards your personal savings allowance.

    You could try contacting them via the message facility on FB (or twitter) might be quicker than waiting for a response from your local branch

    And then I found this old article

    Nothing wong with that, it's correct. It's not Interest, it's a reward (other income) which is taxable at 20% at source prior to you receiving the actual reward, but has to be clearly displayed as above due HMRC rules.

    The Halifax reward account actually pays £3.75 per month gross which is why you receive £3 Net - 20% tax deduction

    This can be reclaimed dependent upon your taxable status.

    On the Halifax website I found this

    More about the £3 reward

    You can earn £3 each month when throughout the previous calendar month you:
    •pay in £750 or more and;
    •pay out a minimum of 2 different direct debits and;
    •stay in credit.

    If in any month you miss out on the £3 reward, you can still get it in future months too (when you meet the qualifying requirements above).

    When we pay you the £3 Reward we are required by legislation to pay tax of £0.75 to HMRC on your behalf, so the gross reward is £3.75. The tax paid is 20% (current basic rate of income tax) of the gross amount. If you are a higher rate or additional rate taxpayer it is your responsibility to pay any additional tax due.

    Looks good, its Navigator of the seas. Itninery looks good and there is an overnighter in St Petersburg
    £835 for inside cabins - We had an insider last year and never had any problems - not in the cabin very much apart from sleeping, showering and changing.
    Drinks are expensive on these ships and you also need to factor in shuttle buses (apart from Skagen) and also excursions in St Petersburg and tips.

    I have had a nosey - 111 night cruise over my 50th birthday sounds ideal....... but then I read that the cruise is ideal for mature couples/singles - does that mean that everyone will be over 70?

    It says it is ideal for people who like value for money....... but it costs a fortune!
