It says it is ideal for people who like value for money....... but it costs a fortune!:o:o:o:o:o:o

On the Halifax website I found this
More about the £3 reward
You can earn £3 each month when throughout the previous calendar month you:
pay in £750 or more and;
pay out a minimum of 2 different direct debits and;
stay in credit.
If in any month you miss out on the £3 reward, you can still get it in future months too (when you meet the qualifying requirements above).
When we pay you the £3 Reward we are required by legislation to pay tax of £0.75 to HMRC on your behalf, so the gross reward is £3.75. The tax paid is 20% (current basic rate of income tax) of the gross amount. If you are a higher rate or additional rate taxpayer it is your responsibility to pay any additional tax due.
It looks to me that that is out of date. Why are they taking 20% tax on this interest? Most people don't qualify for paying tax on interest these days unless they get a vast amount of interest. (Halifax calls this a "reward" but I believe it is treated the same as interest for HMRC purposes - call something whatever name you like, it does not change the legal reality of what it is and it is treated the same way as interest.) As banks are no longer required to pay interest net of tax but pay it gross, I dispute that Halifax is required by legislation to pay tax that, according to your post, it claims it is on its website.
Are they paying £3.75 nowadays? If not, why not?
I question and challenge the assertion that Halifax is required by legislation to pay tax to HMRC and, if I keep going on in this road and the road trip you've sent me on, I'll be asking that it be substantiated in accordance with rules enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority sooner or later:rotfl:.
Have I misunderstood the law? Or the factual position that exists here? Do the rules enforced by the ASA even apply in this case?0 -

It would be like a prison sentence.... in fact I think it is cheaper than it costs to keep someone in prison (only joking on the last bit - the advert spoke about being cheap - it was 20k-45k..... omg I paid less for my house!)100
