Lego alternatives

Hi

Not sure where to post so thought would try here first.

Any one know if any decent lego alternatives? Absolutely love lego foe kids but it's so expensive. We tried a set from wilko for our 4 year old bit instructions were a bit difficult compared to lego and of course not that many choices. So anyone has any other recommendations?

  • Nope. In the long run the quality speaks for itself.

You can keep an eye out in the charity shops/ ask on freecycle or freegle/ ebay to keep the cost down but the cheaper brands are not really worth it for very long.

Go on Ali express and search blocks - it's pretty identical to lego and fits with the kids actual lego

This ∆ there was an article on the news about Lego and one of their bosses couldn't tell the difference, it's good, and they do figures not even done in Ledo.

    Nooooooo!

I put a post on here ages ago to ask people kindly not to bother with replica lego if they were thinking about a gift for a child, as it is mostly SH*TE!!!

My son got some for Christmas (M.Y. brand), and the pieces often don't fit together nicely, or they are too stiff to push together, then some of the designs are badly though out e.g. The people are too big for the object.

It ended up leading to frustration for my son, and him getting upset as he couldn't do it.

Either research this thorougly or just spash out on the real deal. Get some second hand lego via Facebook or ebay.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Just keep an eye out on Amazon and use camelcamelcamel to alert you to price drops on the sets you want. Bought the Lego Friends pool last weekend for £33 compared to the RRP of £55. Lego Friends advent calendar was £14 compared to the RRP of £20. You can get good discounts on Lego!

In all honesty, you get what you pay for & Lego alternatives is sort of heresy - but please, stick to the genuine stuff? It does pay for itself over time, but I appreciate it's pricey up front. This is the site to find the discounts though - so hang onto your principles, please, and keep saving & scheming for the real McCoy?

My son has had years and years of playing with Lego. Building most sets Star Wars , Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, you name it he has probably had a set. Now ,however, he much prefers the figures, why pay a fortune for a set when it's just the figure you require, and more often than not you need to buy several sets to get a few figures.

AliExpress all the way now for us.

Just buy the figures separately. Lego even has its own marketplace, Bricklink.com, you can buy just about anything there.

My eldest, who is now 17, loved lego, had it from around aged 4/5 but he never had a kit. He was never interested in following someone else's design. He just had a large tub of lego and made his own creations. It never cost us much after the initial outlay, which was a Christmas present. When he was around 8years old he was gifted some k'nex and loved that more. That was a kit, but instead he used to cannibalise the parts and create his own concoctions. My favourite was the time he made a crane that moved and took it into school and the other kids wanted to know where he bought it.

Start your child off with just a basic set of lego.

That's what Lego used to be. A toy that stretched a child's imagination.
