They have offered £200 but have assured me there will not be one penny more paid whether I take it to the ombudsman or not.0

Grab it.
Although I'd be intrigued to see what happens if they refuse an FOS order.
In fact once you have cleared the £200 cheque I'd raise a new complaint about that "not a penny more" comment and definitely refer it to the FOS regardless of any settlement offered.Too high, the OP won't be taken seriously.0 -

In order to raise any kind of damages claim you would actually need to have suffered a loss, which you don't appear to have.
You may have cause to raise the matter with the Information Commissioner's Office but her only power is to fine the bank - which goes straight to the ICO.0 -

Last year I got £350 from my pension provider because they sent some pension details to the wrong person. I didn't ask for it, they just told me of the breach and offered me £350, which I gladly accepted. I'm not sure exactly what info they had sent or if this was in any way worse than in the OP's case, but this amount was offered despite there having been no "damage" done as such.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.0
