I used to work at a VW Commercial dealership (vans) as a service advisor. I remember on a few occasions customers ringing up with faults and sometimes I was told by a more experience colleague that things like a reversing camera wouldn't be covered under warranty because it had been fitted by a third party

For example, if a van had been made at the factory without a reverse camera but one was later fitted it wouldn't be covered under warranty.

Can the issue be taken up with the third party that fitted the camera? I would have thought they should at least offer a one year warranty by law?

Dealerships often use a third party to do such work as its cheaper for them to get somebody in instead of asking the factory to fit the camera

Where I work now, we use a third party to fit USB sockets to the vehicles (buses and coaches). If we asked the factory to do it it would be £10,000. The third party charge £1,500. If they stop working they won't be under warranty, the fault will need to be taken up with the third party
