Nissan Customer Services

Please can any body help ? I purchased a bran new Nissan X Trail this year (2017). Soon after taking delivery of the vehicle, the rear camera became loose in the rear opening door. I have no idea how this happened. I am a retired driver, I am extremely careful how I hand my car. I have been to hell and back with Nissan Customer services. They have been very tough to deal with and do not car a dam. I have had other problems with this vehicle too. The customer services team have told me that camera problem is not covered under warranty. I have to pay over £600 myself to get a new camera fitted. I am shocked by this.
The rude and unhelpful customer service staff said they are not prepared to help. Can anybody advise me if there is anything else I can do ? thank you, John Norman

Why aren't you speaking to your local dealership about this rather than Nissan CS?
  • Thank you for your response. I have spent several hours at the dealership in Letchworth. They have refused to help or discuss the matter any more. They will repair the problem for £600 if Nissan Customer Services pay ! The Customers services said they will not pay as it not covered under warranty.
    Thank you, John

Well some more detail regarding the actual problem would help. Why are the dealer and Nissan saying it's not a warranty issue?

I wonder if its a third party reverse/crash cam that has been fitted and not one supplied as standard by Nissan. If so then that would explain why they're washing their hands of it as it will be something the dealer has fitted themselves so the responsibility for remedy would be with the dealership.

Without any evidence that it is a fault with the actual camera or the mountings or a manufacturing defect it won't be covered by warranty. There may be other exclusions, but you'd need to read the warranty documentation.

Closing the door may have caused it to work loose, speed bumps etc however cars do get hit by things and bits do drop off. A warranty is not an 'all repairs free cover'.

If Nissan won't do anything go see an auto-electrician.

Unless the camera itself is faulty I don't see why you'd be forking out for a new camera, if it's just loose I'm sure there would be a fairly easy and inexpensive fix. Have you posted on any of the Nissan owners forums.

Pretty sure every 2017 X-Trail has a reverse camera fitted as standard.
  • Hi
Thank you to all who have contributed. I have to presume the camera fitted the vehicle was new.
Letchworth Nissan have been unhelpful. They want £600 to fit a new camera. They say that the bracket is part of the Camera and cannot be repaired. I still shocked that this is not covered under warranty.
I drive very carefully and treat my car with great respect. Customer services are not going to budge or even meet me half way. I am writing to the Police in Letchworth to see if I am allowed to protest peacefully outside the dealership. I have a disabled friend who will join me, has experienced problems with his Nissan.
Given that I have experienced other problems with this vehicle and lost time off work and expenses, I was hoping customer services would offer to help. I am hoping to arrange a two day protest before Christmas and invite other effected Nissan drivers who have been cheated by Nissan to join in. Thank you all again.
Any other advice, please post. John

Well it seems that they're quite confident that the camera has been damaged, either by yourself or another, rather than faulty in which case there's no reason why the warranty would cover it. If you want to exercise your statutory rights then you will need proof that an inherent fault exists with the camera. If you want to waste your time picketing the dealership with your disable friend (sounds like you trying the old sympathy trick to me) you go for it.

dont bother writing to the police just picket on the public highway without causing an obstruction.
