match.com auto-renew

Hello,
I'm looking for some help regarding match.com auto renew. April 20th I took out a six month subscription. I suspended my account very shortly after this and genuinely forgot all about it. I never once heard from match to say "do you want to stay suspended?" "Do you want to cancel?" Etc etc. No comms at all. Fast forward to October 20th and £78 comes out of my account for another six months subscription.
Whilst this is in the terms and conditions that it will auto renew, what isn't in the terms and conditions is that the onus is on the customer to remember when they took the subscription out, and if they don't want to auto-renew they have to remember this and give at least 48hours notice. I have so far never come across a company that doesn't give warning of auto renew, everything does it, house insurance, car insurance, ancestry subscription and so on. The reason match don't offer this is purely deceitful and i find it disgusting. I have gone through customer service who are refusing to give me my money back and I need to know where I can go with this or if there are any clauses I can use where I can get my money back as I really need it back. I've had to borrow money and this has caused me so much emotional strain.

I too am having issues but I DID remember to take off the automatic renewal and they STILL took my money and are refusing to give it back. Now they won't answer any of my emails and cant find out what to do about it0

That's awful!!! I'm trying to find someone senior I can direct this too as I do not want to drop this as it is so deceitful and disgusting, but I can't find any email addresses. They are also now no longer responding to my emails. I think they've blocked my email address as I no longer get the automatic response0

They won't respond to me at all either and technically it is stealing as I did exactly what I was required to do. I have done a bit of investigating and they have done this a lot. Disgusting0

Unfortunately you agreed to this when you signed up, if you wanted to cancel you should have done so. By your own admission you forgot about it, so how is that Match's fault?
Suspending your profile such that it doesn't appear in search results etc doesn't have any affect on your subscription.
To the other poster: if you cancelled your subscription in line with the T&Cs (e.g. you allowed enough time before it was due to renew) then contact your bank/card issuer for a chargeback.0 -
As I said I find it deceitful that they do not warn you your account is about to auto renew, unlike every other company out there that does give you a warning and even give you a cooling off period after auto renewal. I completely forgot I'd even signed up in April because I had had zero communications from them. And the fact there is no warning in the terms and conditions that you won't get an auto renewal reminder I think is terrible.0

Conversely, there is nothing in the T&C's to state that an auto-renewal reminder will be sent.
Provided that Match have only taken the amount you agreed to pay on or around the date that you agreed to pay it, I honestly don't think that they have done anything wrong.0 -
Thank you I will do this as I did what was required of me in line with match.com policy0

Not Match's fault. Your fault for forgetting when you signed up, it's certainly not deceitful.
This is on their website :
In addition, comparable information on the Membership Subscription deadline is always available to Members in the “My Subscription” section, which allows them to manage their Subscription and account options.
I think they've covered it don't you ?0
