Which car for £1500 Jag Xtype or Ford Focus ?
I have been having issues with a Honda CRV I purchased last week.
The seller has agreed to let me swap it for another car.
He has two which appeal to me one is a 2005 Xtype Jag 1 2.0D owner full service history.
The other is a 2005 Ford Focus 1.8TDCi edge 1 owner as well full service history.
Just not sure if cam belts have been done recently on them.
Diseal and tax costs about the same. Just not to sure on the repair costs.
Just looking for advice on which would be the Best Buy?

Older Jags can become expensive to own as parts are not cheap.
The Focus on the other hand is the better option as it is less of a specialist car.Never Knowingly Understood.

X-Type is essentially a mondeo, drive them both take the one that drives best. At 1500 you have to have realistic expectations, either might last 6 months or 6 years. Personally I would take the jag, that 1.8tdci engine was poor.0

I think there is a cluster problem with Focus mk2, though it may be the 2007 models. But the most boring option is the best, I would go with the Ford. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche

If you have a clear choice between a Ford Focus and a Jag, why would you not choose the Jag?

Whilst sitting, sobbing, surrounded by the piles of receipts for the repair costs.0 -
The X-Type is just a Mondeo with a different bodyshell though. It isn't a proper Jaguar. It is all Ford underneath.trailingspouse wrote: »If you have a clear choice between a Ford Focus and a Jag, why would you not choose the Jag?

The jag is a chain
The focus is two belts if memory serves correctly. Lower one might be wet belt depending on which version it is0 -

I test drove a 3.0l petrol when they first came out. Quick but shoddily built with several loose / broken items in the interior. Totally different feeling to the XJ I was driving at the time.0 -
I know a lot of people will argue against this but....
The old saying if you could not afford to buy it new you cannot afford to run it S/H .0 -
Its a Jag though, it will be more luxurious, and you'll feel like a king in the soft leather interior.
At that price though, could be a money pit. Need to check the history etc very carefully.0
