Welcome. You need to put this on the particular airline thread. Download Vauban's guide.
Did you book direct with airline or via an agent?
You maybe due compensation nif the airline can't prove you received notification of the cancellation.
As for your insurance, it probably won't cover and event like this, irrespective of whether or not you checked in. (How can you check in for a flight that doesn't exist...?)
However, I would suggest a lesson learnt is to always check your flights online, regualarly. You shouldn't have to but airlines will cancel flights at the drop of a hat these days.
If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

did you book direct with the airline or through a third party. Does the airline confirm that no notification was issued? (often these can fall into spam folders or if you booked through a third party they will have notified the third party)
did you not check your booking at all in those 2 months, even to attempt online checkin?

    Hi Lynn,

You can claim from the airline if they did not inform you correctly. The onus is firmly on them to prove that they did inform you directly.

If you need any further help with this, please post what happened and your flight details on the relevant airline thread.

    Good luck.
