You both pay exactly the same price for a kWh.

It has to be exactly the same billing for the same consumption or its fraud !

    Not necessarily.

You're (all) forgetting an important but unaddressed variable in the OP's question. The OP’s brother may indeed be on the same-named tariff from the same supplier but if the two brothers live in different regions the prices they are charged per kWh (and their standing charges) for their gas (and their electricity) on that tariff could well be significantly different. Indeed, they're likely to be.

If someone runs 1 mile and someone else runs 160934 cm, who has run further?

    (Since you ask...)

The one who has run 1 mile.

Because a mile is 160,934.40 cms. So he will have run 0.40 cms (5/32” or 0.15748032 of an inch) further than the one who ran only 160,934 cms.

    :)

The OP is quoting the same price per kWh in their own calculation.

So if we are charged the same price why is mine more as on my one bill
    16.00 imperial units used x 1.022640 volume correctionx 2.83 to convert to metric= 46.30 metric units x 39.2 calorific value ÷ 3.6 to convert to kWh = 504.15 kWh
    So 504.14 x 2.39p = £12.05

My brothers bill for 17 units comes out at
    17.00 metric units used x 1.022640 volume correction = 17.38 corrected units x 39.2 calorific value ÷ 3.6 to convert to kWh = 189.24 kWh
    So 189.14 x 2.39p = £4.52

So this is my query he pays £4.52 I pay £12.25
Sorry just can't get my head around this at all sorry
I understand the gallons/litres explanation but the cost of my bill is more even using a bit less

If you buy 504.14 yards of string at 2.39p per yard, it will cost £12.05.
If your brother buys 189.14 yards of string at 2.39p per yard, it will cost him £4.52.
The price of the string is the same for you both, the reason your bill is higher is because you've bought more string.

The OP used the figure of 2.39p for his brother and himself. Given that he also stated they were on the same tariff would not 'the man on the Clapham omnibus' - who is a hypothetical 'ordinary and reasonable person' - be wise to consider that the OP was correct in using the same figure of 2.39p?

May we take it that you don't use the Clapham omnibus a great deal?
