16.00 imperial units used x 1.022640 volume correctionx 2.83 to convert to metric= 46.30 metric units x 39.2 calorific value ÷ 3.6 to convert to kWh = 504.15 kWh
So 504.14 x 2.39p = £12.05
My brothers bill for 17 units comes out at
17.00 metric units used x 1.022640 volume correction = 17.38 corrected units x 39.2 calorific value ÷ 3.6 to convert to kWh = 189.24 kWh
So 189.14 x 2.39p = £4.52
So this is my query he pays £4.52 I pay £12.25
Sorry just can't get my head around this at all sorry
I understand the gallons/litres explanation but the cost of my bill is more even using a bit less 😵
You have answered the question yourself.
You have used 504.15kWh and your brother has used 189.14kWh
Your 16 gas units on your Imperial gas meter each 'contain' 31.51kWh
His 17 gas units on a metric meter each 'contain' 11.13kWh0 -
The answer is in your post. Your brother has used 189.24kWhs and you have used 504.14kWhs. As you have used 314.9kWhs more energy than your brother, this equates to the extra £7.73 on your bill.
If you had a choice which one would you choose?

You pay £12.25 for 16 gallons, he pays £4.52 for 17 litres.
But ..... You are not buying litres or gallons you are buying miles. You both have the same car which does 40 mpg which is 8.8 mpl. He buys a litre of petrol for £1.20, you buy a gallon for £5.45. Your one pump unit is 4.546 times his pump unit so costs you more but £1.20 / 8.8 = 14p and £5.45 / 40 = 14p, both the same cost per mile.0 -

These days you don’t get a choice. We are now a metric country. When your meter reaches its end-of-life or you decide to accept a smart meter it will record the VOLUME of gas used in cubic metres. This will not affect your billing in any way but I think that you know that already. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Metric meters have been fitted since around 2003/ 2004 in my memory as a meter reader.
Surely if a metric meter was getting a cheaper rate than imperial some bright spark would have spotted it in the first few months of installation in 2004.
It has to be exactly the same billing for the same consumption or its fraud !0 -
Does it matter if it is measured using imperial or metric?
If someone runs 1 mile and someone else runs 160934 cm, who has run further?0 -

I don't care how it is measured I just want the cheapest it's just that looking at the sums I thought I was paying more for having an imperial meter 😵0 -
Hope your mind is now at ease.0
