Advised internet slowdown/dropout due to poor wireless connection - advice please

  • Update and resolution for those interested: after further conversations about how it hasn't got better, I wasn't prepared to pay for a new router at my own expense etc etc Plusnet have agreed to cancel the remainder of the fibre contract (still 14 months to run) at no penalty charge and with no admin fees in exchange for me signing up for an 18 month standard ADSL broadband contract. All going through and moving across in the next few days.

I'm happy as we never had these difficulties with Plusnet ADSL, plus obviously my monthly will be cheaper. The trade off is slower speed but if it actually works all the time and doesn't slow down randomly to a crawl, then that's a trade off I'm happy with.
  • "Done up like a kipper" comes to mind.

Probably depends on the area but my experience is that "standard" ADSL is more expensive than, or at best the same as, FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet).

The wireless performance has little to do with the type of upstream connection. So likely nothing will improve unless PlusNet send you another wireless router that works properly. In all probability you could also use your existing old, but known good, ADSL router on your FTTC.

Your new FTTC/ADSL router is either faulty or more likely mis-configured or the firmware is out of date.
