What happens on the HAN isn't really the issue it's the WAN backlink to the supplier (or data routed to the supplier via the DCC). It doesn't make much difference if it's a mesh network if a backlink bridging path can't be found, no matter how many hops are used - you can get orphaned groups of sites in the same way that you can individual site nodes ...

This is already in the license conditions. The rule set that governs which meters can be counted by suppliers changes each year in the roll out. For instance last year was the final year suppliers could count capable meters, if the meter isn’t communicating then it can’t receive the firmware upgrade to change it from capable to
compliant so it will drop off the suppliers count this year.
By the end of 2020 the rule set changes again and suppliers have to demonstrate they have taken all reasonable steps to provide a customer with a compliant communicating smart meter. This means that where there is a signal strength issue the supplier has to try whatever options there are (mesh hubs/dual band coms hubs/ flying leads etc.) to get the customers smart meter working.
Yet that covers scheme adoption and registration as opposed to ongoing inclusion ...
... for example, you raise the 2020 change on compliance, yet this isn't fully retrospective and millions of registered meters will remain as being eligible for inclusion in the scheme funding pool for 'investment' recovery from consumers through an energy bill included levy, including ones which, for whatever reason, aren't doing what they're supposed to do ... meter and communicate information to consumers & suppliers in a smart way ... that's why each of the industry players rushed to maximise their own installation count - it simply creates an extremely profitable revenue stream for years to come ... a windfall by any other name!

Morning HoneysuckleHouse and glad it's been sorted.
Thanks for letting me know.

Energy supplier SSE to cut 444 jobs at its retail arm as customers snub smart meters
SSE is planning to cut 444 jobs in its customer service and metering teams
Union Unite said the cuts were linked to low demand for smart meters
SSE said the losses were 'voluntary enhanced redundancy opportunities'
https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-7005661/Energy-giant-cut-hundreds-smart-meter-jobs-says-union.html
You carn't Blame people and how much of this bullying by energy supplers' and associated negative headlines' are to blame ?
If I had of known a company renowned for poor performance were going to involved in this let alone in control that smart meter would never have been installed here. Centralising the system means all the eggs in one basket and could be a much more attractive proposition for problems,if that were to happen the chaos would be immeasurable.0 -
On EDF Easy Online tariff which states you must have a smart meter. Electric one was installed today, but he couldn't install gas one as supply pipe leads behind internal wood cladding on the wall. Would EDF be within their rights to switch me to a higher tarriff?0

Energy supplier SSE to cut 444 jobs at its retail arm as customers snub smart meters
SSE is planning to cut 444 jobs in its customer service and metering teams
Union Unite said the cuts were linked to low demand for smart meters
...SSE insisted this was “not entirely accurate”, however. It said the reasons for the cuts were “broader” than this and noted they were are being made across both smart metering and customer service.“Like a number of suppliers, we are facing challenges due to competition increasing, the introduction of the energy price cap and higher operating costs,” said Tony Keeling, SSE chief operating officer and co-head of retail.
Which sounds more accurate, bearing in mind...SSE, is to pay out £700,000 after it missed its target to install gas smart meters for customers in 2018.
Under the Government’s smart meter roll-out programme, suppliers are required by law to take all reasonable steps to roll-out smart meters to all homes and small businesses by the end of 2020.
To work towards this, suppliers set individual annual targets for smart meters installations and Ofgem monitors performance against these targets....
Ofgem is closely monitoring suppliers’ approaches to the roll-out of smart meters and will hold suppliers to account if they do not meet their obligations.0 -

I'd be more worried about the supplier demanding you rip out the wood cladding that has been installed and is interfering with unhindered access to their meter :eek:0
