payg sim only - piggyback or direct?

Just wondering if theres any downside to using a company who piggybacks off a main network, instead of the network themselves?

I understand the signal is just as good as they use the same network as the main provider, but is there anything else to be aware of?

for example asda on o2 for £10 offers 600 mins u/l texts and 2gb data
where as o2 themselves for £10 offer only 250 mins u/l text and 1gb data

Thanks for any information.

  • Asda use ee not o2.
some piggyback networks provide slow internet speed compared to main networks.

Plusnet (on EE) don't support short dealing codes. Talkmoble (on Vodafone) used to only offer 3G access.
  • Giffgaff cap the data speed horrendously until 11pm at night. Plusnet & Sky don't support shortcodes (upside or downside is dependant on use).

None of the mvno offer WiFi calling although even the main carriers usually require specific phones (i.e. the expensive ones) bought direct from them (this varies though).

I think only EE have access to their 800Mhz band for VoIP and data.

Currently using ID (CPW) which uses 3 and have no issues whatsoever.

Will probably be going back to 3 shortly as they are now better value than ID.

Tesco Mobile is better value with 2GB of data for £10 on their rocket packs
Asda Mobile have a £10 data offer on over the festive period but use EE.
