Grrr scratch on new wood burner

Afternoon folks

We had a Flavel Arundel wood burner installed last week and it looks great.

I noticed a scratch on the top of the door which being brand new has really irritated me! :( The finish of the stove is Matt black. I stupidly used a small smear of car polish on the scratch which has made that patch slightly shiny (so worse ha!)

Even though I'm probably the only one to notice it it still annoys me. The company sell the proper spray paint for £25 so the colour would match.

Is it worth spraying it now or do they usually end up with marks etc? Would only need to spray the door but need to work out if I should just wait and do it in the spring if it's likely to look tired by then.

Many thanks.

I would worry about it in the Spring( personally). It is a bit annoying, given that it's new. However, you are going to be burning fuel at high temperature, and they do wear. You want to see mine!

Likewise, my stove after 5 years is a bit the worse for wear, however I wouldn't be paying £25 for paint, there are perfectly good stove paints for around £5.00 from the likes of Stovax & Rustins.

Thanks chaps puts my OCD at Bay!! I'll wait till the whole thing looks scruffy and re-do the whole stove with a cheaper paint -£30 with post does sound damn pricey!!

Now that you have applied a wax to the door, you'll struggle to get paint to stick... Pick a time when the stove is cold (the sooner the better) and use some hot soapy water to try and get the wax off.

When you go looking for heat resistant paint, try your local Halfords (or independent) and ask for "very high temperature spray paint". £7.50 to £10.50 per can.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.
  • My clear view pioneer stove could do with a respray, can you tell me the process please, aka idiots guide , thanks
Be happy, it's the greatest wealth :)
  • A good scrub down with soapy water, rinse and dry off. Probably easier to remove any doors and remove glass from them. Replace the rope seal around the glass while you're at it, and the rope seal for the door.

Several light coats from a rattle can of stove paint - let it dry off between coats (dried pretty quickly) Put everything back together, keep windows open when you first light it to let any stinky paint fumes out.

Not really any more to it than that!
