Landlord lied about the flat - how to get money back?!

The problem here isn't how the landlord should deal with the vermin problem, it's that they let the place out at all in it's current condition.
Anyone attempting to rent out a property which, like the one discussed by the OP, was unfit for human occupation, should forfeit the property and face a probable prison term.
We are all human beings and know what conditions are acceptable for someone to live in. If they force/trick someone into living in conditions like those in the OP for financial gain they should face little short of the death sentence.
It's an affront to society, and crime against humanity and it brings respectable professional landlords into disrepute.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0
