I'm looking for advice on getting a stair lift. Any hints, tips or recommendations would be good.
The stairs are a straight run but not much room at the bottom.

Go to a local independent installer.
Lots of possibilities these days.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
My Mum had an assessment by an OT before we went looking for a stairlift - we knew exactly what she needed then before we started getting the spiel from salesmen.0

Thank you both. Talking to my husband's OT sounds like a good idea.0

Get several quotes, my highest was almost exactly twice the lowest. If there’s not much room at the bottom, you can get one with a rail that folds back up when not in use. And if you happen to be planning a new stair carpet, get that done first!
My best advice is to get it done ASAP, whoever will be using it may be surprised by how much energy they have for other things when not using it to struggle upstairs.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Competition Time, Site Feedback and Marriage, Relationships and Families boards. I'd also second this.
We had a couple of salesmen from big firms who used exactly the same pressure tactics as the discredited double-glazing companies.
Show any like that the door - you will end up paying much more than necessary.
Hmm, my sister has experienced the same recently while trying to find the right folding mobility scooter. Lots of high pressure tactics, fake discount offers and one salesman who came out to show her a scooter at home turned really unpleasant when she explained why the model he showed her wouldn't meet her needs.
This is an area that cries out for regulation I think.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
It's hard enough being a carer of someone with dementia without having to deal with bullying tactics. I'm due to have my landing, stairs and hall decorated and new carpet. So will probably leave it till the new year and have someone with me.
Thank you all for your help it really has been useful0
