HI all
OK, about to move house and out of the proceeds Ive decided to "treat" myself ( god i sounds SAD! ) to a new set of pans.
I currently have one of those cheapie sets from M&S ( 3 metal saucepans for 8.50) some rank trays which are fit for the bin and a decent griddle pan ( M&S) couple of cake tins & a loaf tin.
I do fancy cruesets, my folks have them but im balking a bit at the cost.
What pans do you have or what do you recommend?

x:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Can't recommend a brand. Can recommend buying the best ones you can afford. (My sis and I still use some of our late grandmother's kitchen equipment, not OS just old!)0

Think about the weight of them empty and what the weight will be full of food.... before you buy.
Le cruset looks lovely but my cousin with arthritis says she'd never ever lift them with food in.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I bought mine from Homebase in 1995 and they are called Judge (My mum said at the time "oh stainless steel pans...thats a bit old fashioned"
They are still going today and I think I will get another 5 years out of them. Not in debt at the moment, but been there in the past and realise I'm the kind of person who could easily fall back into it with the self destructing spending button so making sure I keep on top of being a good girl.

Only thing about Creusets is that they are really heavy, even without being full. I have a Creuset frying pan that is lovely - I don't use it very often cause it is a bit unwieldy and you also have to remember that the iron retains heat well and is still annihiliating your food behind your back even though you've turned the heat off! I do lust after a large oval cocette (sp?). IKEA are doing they're own version of cast iron cookware now.
Getting some pans that can put up with a bit of abuse and you really like using makes cooking really pleasant. I've used crappy pans most of my adult life until I move in with my BF, he had some really nice pans. I brought the Creuset frying pan which I bought after destroying yet another cheap fry pan.0 -
I love Le Creuset and they are great but they are heavy. Also don't look so good now that I have been washing them in the DW. My current favourite is one that is non-stick but unlike my Le Creuset, I can't stick it in the oven if I decide I want too.0

plain and simple stainless steel pans would be the best I think. I've got three (all different makes) In fact I think one is made by tesco's and it's my favourite!
Le cruset are lovely - I have a casserole pot and love it, but the frying pan I had was so heavy it was almost unusable and the non stick peeled off! urgh.0 -
I just bought this Stellar set here: Stellar and am really, really pleased. They are extremely good quality, and the draining lids are fantastic. I went for stainless steel saucepans because I wanted to be able to use a masher or hand blender in them without worrying about scratching the surface up. There is a slightly different Stellar set here: Stellar
I was able to get them for a tiny bit less from our local department store.
I have heard very good things about the Judge Vista saucepan sets for sale at Robert Dyas here: Judge There are two different sets - one has the draining lids
I was looking at them when I bought the Stellar ones - they had a heavy thick base and were very well made. In fact I almost bought them because for the money they are a fantastic deal (they were full price in our local store, Robert Dyas is def a bargain) plus there is a thread on here and people who bought them are very happy. Saucepans
Both sets have individual extras you can buy - non-stick milk pans, frying pans, etc that match. The only reason I didn't buy the Judge ones is we already had a few pots that sort of matched the Stellar ones.
I thought I would prefer non-stick but I really love the stainless steel - it cleans up beautifully and nothing has stuck yet.
Hope this helped a bit:happylove0 -
