Samsung TV 40" disappointed with sound.

I have just bought a Samsung 40" 1080 TV, and the picture is superb, however I find the sound to be poor quality.
I have adjusted everything I can think of on the screen, yet I cannot make any improvement.
Has anyone else found this problem, and would the answer be to buy a surround round system-I shouldn't have to, though!
Thanks

It's because Samsung want you to buy one of these:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132863
Samsung HT-X250R Home theatre system
The pricetag is £320, but it's built in DVD player has got HDMI upscaling and it can pump out 600w RMS

I have a Samsung 37 inch we got just after New Year and we get a poor sound quality (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=573258) and poor Freeview signal... our external Freeview box gives us better signal although as the sound comes through the telly, the sound isn't better but it is louder... ON the Samsung we get a vibration through the sound.... quite annoying at times, although it doesn't happen all the time....0

Older CRT TVs lent themselves well to having decent sized speakers in them, however the latest LCD TVs can only accomodate small shallow ones, hence the poor sound.
As someone else has said, the way forward is with an external sound system.
As i dont want speakers and wires all over the place i will probably run with this one for my Samsung 40inch LCD TV.

Unless someone can recommend a wireless 5.1 system?

Not true, I have a Phillips 42" Plasma, that has far better sound quality than my old JVC 32" CRT that it replaced.
Sound quality on Samsung LCD's is notoriosly poor, cost cutting, no doubt. I wouldn't buy one after listening to my Cousins 40" Samsung LCD.0 -
If its the Samsung LE40M87BD / BDX its not a fault its a commen complaint, unfortunately its something u have to lie with unless your prepared buy a surround system.0

Many thanks to everyone for their comments-wish I'd read about this before I bought it now!
As I bought it from Costco, I could still return it for a full refund, but the picture is superb, so I looks as if I will go for the suround sound system, thing is, I don't want wires all over the place, Bose have very small speakers on stands, but will I have to buy Samsung for it be compatable with the TV?
Any guidance will be much appreciated.Filiss0 -

Sorry, i meant to put 'on the more price sensitive models'. You're right its down to cost cutting and speaker quality. Small decent sounding speakers cost more!0 -
I have been looking at this TV, but on the TV review sites, most of them say the same thing- poor sound, recommend a surround sound system. Has anyone any views on which is a good 40" TV? Apparently Sony use Samsung technology in their TV's, so is the sound poor on those too?:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

My understanding was that those small Bose speakers on stands only sounded decent with their bass box.
My worry of not buying Samsung speakers would be that you would end up having to use a different remote for the volume which would bug me.0
