You might like to look at the following which is from the HSE Display Screen Regulations 1992. It outlines good practise in the workplace but it relevant to the domestic uses of monitors.

    Hello all

I find even with the brightness reduced on my desktop 19" screen its still really bright and strains my eyes, is there anything I can buy to help this?

I was looking at a 3M Privacy Screen Protection Filter Anti-glare Desktop Widescreen

But isnt this only about protecting privacy and not about helping your eyes?
Turn up the lighting in the room the computer is in. You don't want a big brightness difference between screen and room surroundings.

No need to buy any hardware or spend money.

Just download colorveil and it will dim your screen to your liking.
