How to protect eyes from computer screeen?

Hello all

I find even with the brightness reduced on my desktop 19" screen its still really bright and strains my eyes, is there anything I can buy to help this?

I was looking at a 3M Privacy Screen Protection Filter Anti-glare Desktop Widescreen

But isnt this only about protecting privacy and not about helping your eyes?

Do your video drivers provide any utilities to override the brightness, contrast or gamma settings?
  • iPhones can automatically shift screen colours towards the warmer end of the spectrum (less blue) between sunset and sunrise. I guess that is the effect you are after, there should be colour adjustments on your PC.

Look at the onscreen menus to alter the brightness/contrast/other similar options down, and also check for a "colour" setting as well.

If you have W10 .... Settings - Display - Toggle 'Night Light' on - set required effect.
If you don't have W10 download Flux.... From HERE

  • Depending on your PC.... if it has Intel graphics:

Right click on the desktop >>> Graphics Properties >>> Color >>> then you can adjust brightness, contrast and gamma.

This is independent of your monitors controls so you can really bring the settings down.
  • Thanks all, would a 3M Privacy Screen Protection Filter Anti-glare Desktop Widescreen help?

I think you are looking for the wrong solution there.
Those screens just reduce the viewing angles of the screen and reduce the reflections on a glossy screen. It won't help with the brightness issues and your eyes.
Why waste the money before you've tried the suggestions made?

My advice would be to get to your eyes tested ASAP.
If you have not done so already.

Change the background colours and themes.

I did this years ago when in chat rooms, naughty people were posting white text, so i changed my background with a grey tinge, sorted.

Then noticed that i got less eyestrain also, no more shocks when going from a website with a black background to a bright white one also.

With the monitors adjustment and tyhe adjustment in windows you should be able to make the screen so dark you need a flashlight.
