    That will tell you what hardware you have got.

    The first thing I look at when people say they want a faster computer is how old the computer is. If it's 8+ years old then you're costing upgrades vs replacement.

    Secondly, if you're sitting at 2GB then no amount of tweaking is going to give you much improvement. Go into Control panel and hit "system" to see how much RAM you have.

    While there, look at what CPU you have and it's speed. If it's a single core or running below 1.5 Ghz then you're going to have to make decision on upgrading it.

    Lastly you look at the hard drive and how full and fast it is. If it's full to the brim and slow then you're going to have upgrade else get an external.
