I need a cheap fault code analyser
Comments
-
OK, I have ordered one like the one in #3. I know fault codes 0130-0134 are the turbo sensor and 0136-0140 are the exhaust sensor.
I am quite confident I can clean/replace the faulty one. Main problem will be freeing it as they seem to "weld" themselves in but will soak in WD40 and I have good spanners.
As for not messing with things I don't understand I have stripped/rebuilt many car engines plus electric motors, I have even helped replace valves in sealed fridge compressors not many people have done that!
So don't anticipate this will be too difficult technically and this is an MSE forum!0 -

Something like the device linked below should do nicely.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00UR5BRZU/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1509197597&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=elm327+bluetooth&dpPl=1&dpID=51ktm-4z3qL&ref=plSrch
I wouldn't be paying that for one you can get it for £3.30 on eBay including postage:

But I agree these are the best option for value for money considering what they can do with the right app.0 -

Be careful - they're not all equal. It's best to get one with a proper elm327 chip - some of the super cheap adapters don't provide proper support. Still if there's good reviews it might be worth a punt.0 -
The code analyser arrived today and by following the instructions I found out it was indeed the sensor in the exhaust, I have reset it using the analyser but I expect it will come back on soon.
Not a difficult job to replace so will do it soon.0
