    Thanks.

A perfect example to my golden rule for those that have your type of metering

Do not attempt to switch supplier with such legacy metering. Attempts to do so invariably end in tears

Thanks for proving the rule once again.

    Good luck!

Only if at the time you know you have "odd" metering!

Iresa would have passed your meter readings to EDF, but it seems that EDF did not accept those readings. In that case it goes to 'arbitration'* and readings agreed between the companies.

Ok, so, even though I have photographic proof, would they not even tell me they dispute it? I dont undertand as I still have to pay someone for the leccy.

Whats the point in providing a reading and the supplier just making it up?

It seems I have two issues here:
1 Is the made up meter reading from Iresa/EDF
2 Iresa charging me on peak only inc the massive "extra usage"

I spoke with edf and for this month Oct we used £90 so I know the Iresa bill is crazy. We only moved in here on 14th March and the readying for 49xxx which they made up was 48xxx something, again I have photos when we moved in on day one. Annoyed as at no time did anyone tell me they disputed the reading.

Providing the losing supplier with meter readings on a switch is a pointless exercise as they will just be ignored. When the gaining supplier asks for readings then these are subject to industry validation using historic usage data for your property. The validated readings are then passed back to the two suppliers to open and close your accounts. If the readings that you provided differ markedly from the validated readings, then an Agreed Readings Dispute may be initiated to resolve the issue.

Why bother with validation? Some people lie when moving to a more expensive tariff; some people mis-read their meters, and some can’t or don’t bother to read the meters when asked to do so. On any transfer of supply, you don’t pay for the same energy twice.

Problem is, I am being charged at a crazy amount by Iresa as they dont use the off peak when charging me on my second meter.

I am not sure that we can offer much more in the way of help if the matter is now subject to EO adjudication. All you can do is make sure that the EO has all the facts. I am sure that you appreciate that using EO services is a last chance saloon. It’s decision is binding on the supplier but only if you accept it in full - warts ‘n’ all. If you don’t like the decision and reject it, the supplier is firmly off the hook. It’s an arbitration service to be used with a lot thought. In my experience, it is good at dealing with simple complaints but poor at handling anything out of the ordinary.

Yes, the key fact is, should Iresa have accepted me onto an E7 tarriff when I did'nt have an E7 meter, thus charge me on peak for both meters. And wait 1 month before sending the opening meter reading and when they did, send a made up reading.

I have a load of info from EDF who said Iresa were made aware of my peak and off peak meters plus they waited a month for the opening reading from Iresa.

I have opened a dispute with EDF for the meter readings which will help.
  • Was the timescale EDF then IRESA then EDF? Did you just switch back or was an Erroneous Transfer raised? I don't believe IRESA are equipped to take an E10 tariff. When did you become aware you were on E10 not E7?

When you go to quote a box comes up stating they do not support E10 metering. The problem is that they will not know you have E10 until they actually start the transfer process. I suppose they should have refused the transfer as soon as they found out but I suspect they have a slow manual process for much of this. EDF fully support E10 metering, not one of the companies that accept the meter but may allocate E7 to it, so surely OP must have been on an E10 tariff which would have been reflected in the name.

It does (although I cannot vouch for the accuracy - the site is just some info an individual set up)

What the site fails to recognise, is that unlike E7 which is universal, E10 varies from one supply region to another, hence the golden rule given above :)
