So was the ridge visible on the wedding photos?
  • No but the point being I had to resort to cutting the corset out in order to remove the visible line. The reason why I feel this is unfair is that it meant I lost all the shape of the dress that I had bought. The corseted shape was the reason I went for this dress, and I was in a position where I had to either accept the ridge, or remove the corset which I think is unfair.

I do find it strange where you say you went back to the store and they didn’t respond to you .They must have responded in some way.

Also, was having a final fitting just two weeks before the wedding a great idea?
  • I have evidence of a message sent to them with a picture that was not responded to, so strange as it may be that is the case. Also might I add that my dress which I had ordered a year in advance only arrived in the store 2 weeks before my wedding, so this was also out of my hands

Have you been back to the store in person, or tried to contact them through Facebook or twitter, as sometimes these can produce results as they don’t want problems aired in public.
  • Haven't publicised it. I've sent them a message with my position and that I feel entitled to compensation because I was sold an item that was not as described, a return or repair was highly inconvenient and not possible to turnover in the time I had. I'm waiting to hear their response. I'm not going to lose sleep over it but at the end of the day it is very unfair as a customer to be put in the position I was in
  • You say that you have evidence of a message you sent to the shop. With the clock counting down to your big day and the poo firmly wedged in the fan you sent an email (that may or may not have been delivered, and may not get read for a number of days) and left it at that; and now wish to get on the war path. Surely rocking up that the moment they opened and demanding that they sort out their problem, pointing out that you would not leave till it is resolved would have been a more proactive course of action?

What sort of compensation are you looking for?

I can understand your issue but in the first instance you are basically looking for a goodwill payment from the bridal shop. If you are clear what you want it might give you a position to negotiate from. Of course they might not agree to this but to prevent the bad publicity I'm sure they'll be willing to discuss it.

If you can't come to an agreement then you'll be heading down the court route and being honest given what you've wrote I don't fancy your chances.

i would agree in any other situation I would not be entitled as I accepted the dress. But wedding dresses are different

I would just write to the shop stating the specific wording of the law that states that "wedding dresses are different", then take them to court. The judge will know about this law and find in your favour. I have never heard of it, but a judge will, they need to know about the law; it's a condition of their employment. That and the Latin.

Weddings actually are considered different - particularly when the traders involved usually market it as a one off extra special event that justifies paying £3500 for about £300 of material that you have to order months/years in advance.

For example, normally under breach of contract distress & inconvenience cannot be claimed for. But in wedding contracts (and a few other exceptions also), it can.

Plus OP can claim damages for the goods not matching the model seen or examined. The goods need to exactly match save for any differences specifically drawn to the consumers attention before entering the contract.

I still don't think we're talking a huge amount though even if most people would have agreed with OP and found it different from the display (rather than the bride just being extra fussy - sorry OP but brides are prone to it, thats why I asked for pictures). Perhaps between 10-20% of the cost of the dress in total. If OP could show the dress would sell for considerably less with that line or without the corset then they might be able to claim a bit more.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
